IanHenry Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Well worth the £50! Surfpup, that's not £50, it's 50 Shillings. I think that works out as £2.50! You can't get a pint of beer for that now. Ian

cody78 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 If festivals were this good now, I would be at them all the time! What an amazing line up an experience that must have been.
Karloff Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 WOW, what a line up. i've gotten to see 6 of them... not in '70 though.
quapman Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 That's a cool way to look at it Karloff,, I've seen 4. Except Frank wasn't with the Mothers when I saw him.
'Scales Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Peter Grant demanded Zeppelin's name be in twice as big letters as anyone else (and 20,000 GBP!!!) for the gig. Still, I guess the Maynard Ferguson Big Band would have settled for having their name half the size of Led Zep's ...don't believe Zappa's manager was so impressed though.
jdgm Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I was there. I was 16. Johnny Winter, Floyd and Steppenwolf were all magnificent. I remember Floyd did 'Atom Heart Mother'. On Sunday Zappa played in the afternoon then Flock and (dare I say this) Zeppelin went on a bit long....I had seen Zep the year before at the one-day Bath Festival and they were more exciting then. It began to rain on Sunday night so the Airplane cut their set short. Hot Tuna didn't - they were great and I was converted that night. And it was 50 bob (shillings) which is 4 dollars and 2 cents today!
capmaster Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Never heard of these bands. Are they any good? [lol]
jannusguy2 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 How did Maynard Ferguson wind up in there?!

Peter Grant changed the concert business paradigm forever.
kelly campbell Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Very true about Peter Grant today's musicians owe him a big thanks....I loved some of the things they did just to screw with record companies and promoters..
