My perfect les paul..

Gibson Artist

Recommended Posts

So ive been playing les pauls consistently for the past 4 years and finding/experimenting with what options i would like the most in a Gibson LP. While i love the two Studios i bought, they both have features i like and dislike. If i could build the perfect les paul i suppose this is the specs i would want. Btw, if anyone knows if this exists pls let me know!

Things i want most

1. 60s slim neck

2. rosewood or ebony fretboard

3. non chambered

4. Paf classic sounding pickups

5. plek'd frets

Things i dont want

1. chunky necks, i have small hands

2. coil splitting knobs, not a fan

3. maple fretboards, not my tone

4. weight relief,i feel solid projects slightly better

5. Chrome tuners on a les paul, yeah i know some hold tune better but for me i prefer the look of plastic

Being a short guy (only 5'8) i dont have very big hands so i really would prefer a 60s slim neck, i find them much easier to get around on. Push pull knobs and maple fretboards arent what i envision in my perfect les paul, i do not want strat like tonal options, if i want a strat ill buy one. Weight relief, well id love to be proven wrong here and this is just my theory but they seem to project better. As for pickups, im flexible if i can get the other options i want, but after trying paf reproduction pickups in my orville i have to say im a BIG fan.

Btw, i mean no disrespect to anyone who likes the options i do not. If you like chunky necks rock on, if you dig maple tones or split coils cool beans, it's just not for me. I just want to build the perfect les paul for me. If anyone knows a model which has the majority of what i am looking for i would love to hear about it. Would be greatly appreciated.

Dat's da one. Quite a few folks on here have them and LOVE them. [thumbup]

Ah, i found it on musiciansfriend to, says out of stock aww man lol. But, says there is 3 neck types and the one i just saw has the second one as the necks just started to get slimmer around 1960. Very cool! May be a Custom model but just to know that there is a guitar with everything i want is awesome. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/gibson-custom-50th-anniversary-1960-les-paul-r0-pilot-run-electric-guitar--3-versions

Thank you so much, this isnt something i can run out and buy but if i save my pennies or check if its ever re issued at least i know a model that fits all my desires. Now to check Youtube for some nice Tones.

There are always quite a few on eBay and Reverb in great condition. It was a popular model because of the features you mentioned.

...it sounds like you just described an R0...

Yup. What Surf said.

Mine just happens to be the best guitar I've ever played in my 37 years of picking'n'choosin' and pickin' so I'm probably biased but I've played other R0's nearly as good, too.

They're not cheap, as you know, but they ARE worth the money IMO.
