SWD Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Talked to my brother who has a 2002 Songwriter DLX. Seems his saddle is changing colour to an almost coffee stain brown while the nut remains white. The website lists the specs as Tusq saddle and bone nut..hmmmm <_< Now my 2006 Songwriter does not display any discolouring of either saddle or nut. So I'm assuming that they are both bone. Or possibly they've been changed out before I acquired it. My sis-in-law also has this problem with her Taylor 414 (4-5 yrs. old) If anything I would have expected the bone to discolour since it is a natural organic material, not the synthetic Tusg...anybody notice this before?
DRC Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 This has been discussed many times on different guitar forums. Check these out. http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-136429.html http://www.taylorguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2792989 http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10704 DC
DenverSteve Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Different materials oxidize differently - under different conditions. Different environmental exposures to the same material, in different locations, can cause the product to age differently. This means that different guitars will age differently during the same period. I love the aged look of bindings, nuts, saddles... as they yellow. It adds great mojo.
SWD Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Ya, we are not concerned with it, other than curiousity. It gets noticed when I bring my SWD to his house and they sit side by side. That's all. Of course we tease his wife about the TERRIBLE quality of her Taylor.. All in good fun of course.
