quapman
This 3D printing stuff seriously messes with my brain. It's cool as hell. I would have to try one to see if I wanted one but if they could font me up some mojo with SRV's fingerprints all over it I don't see how I could resist. lol. Mind boggling cool stuff though. surfpup
In a heartbeat. The customization options are endless. What I'd love to hear is a side by side comparison of a 3-D printed Strat clone with a traditional one. You can't tell much from the clip of that band. The results, or combinations are endless, but I would like to hear how the sound, and how they feel. I bet they are extremely light <weight>. But I wonder if you were to use good pick-ups, and a good neck, how they would sound and feel. I am a traditionalist for sure, but they might be cool. I think they are selling for about $3,495.00, not cheap by no means, but that is for a complete guitar.

As for cost, it won't be that expensive for long. The material costs are coming down.
Rabs
They have also started printing with Wood and Metal..... and they can print with chocolate too :D Its amazing what this technology could do... I think once it really gets off the ground it will change the world... Like, oohh I need a new coffee cup... Easy, download a 3d design and just print one... That's whats gonna happen eventually. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVJifm2b6-c As for if id want a 3D printed guitar... sure... if they play well and sound good.. why not.. you could create your own unique design... sounds cool.. (and if successful, traditional guitar makers should worry.. Gibson and Fender though will always have their history to trade off and I don't think that will change). jdgm
No thankyou. I had a plastic Tokai 'Mat' Strat once. Hollow and so tone-free it didn't sound good to me above the 12th fret. On the other hand a guitar or bass which doesn't colour the strings-pup tone AT ALL might be desirable to many players.
'Scales
yes I reckon I would - a 5lb bass maybe, $100 travel guitar, personalised beater, exact match of main guitar for emergency back-up etc, etc. Not to replace my 'real' guitars, but for specific purposes and/or fun at the right price - YES.
