duluthdan Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Strange indeed. Parrelellagrams ar e solid, not split, and that burst shade ???
BigKahune Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 . Yah, but it's got a nice pickguard shadow. . B) .
j45nick Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Strange indeed. Parrelellagrams ar e solid, not split, and that burst shade ??? They mentioned some re-finishing, and I'd guess that top burst isn't original.
zombywoof Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Starting in 1973 the HBs came with the solid parallelogram markers.
E-minor7 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I could live with a guardless square dread, that be Mart or Gibson, but would be annoyed by the ghost-shape on the top. Agree this one looks refinished and over-glossed - done loooong time ago though. Without wanting to jump-enter your cloud, Zomb, Gibson started the rectangular fret-marks as soon as 1970. Might have been a 'both-styles-periode'. BK777 - go and check that oldie - it might surprise beyond expectations. Then treat us a little review.

I don't believe I could be trusted in that shop, Em7! Maybe not the bald Hummingbird, but a true 60s next to it, and a ...and..........and.... BluesKing777.

BluesKing777. I checked out their inventory online, and that early 60's 'bird looks awfully promising, but not cheap. Nothing else listed really floated my boat. Do it, BK, just do it...... You seem to be on a roll these days.

The Boss, the Hound and I are the only ones here (I work contract) - the rest of the state is on a four or five day holiday weekend for the Melbourne Cup horse race. Officially Tuesday is the only holiday, but lots take extra leave. Not me - still pounding computer keys - why I got all the nice geetars!!! So we could look through the shop window at the guitars......and its a long way from here...... BluesKing777.

The fret markers though would be the least of a 1970s Gibson's problems.

Nothing else listed really floated my boat. I too checked their line-up and got kind of fixed upon the Levin. Then again I have a suspicion that their reputation is better than their actual sound. Only ever played one Levin, which sang for me. The 92 Dove might be worth a try, but the old Bird is slightly overprized, , , and undersized when it comes to the nut. Nick, , , !? , , never saw you as a Birdy, , , and in case you were, was sure it had to be one of the orange real ones. . ;-)
BluesKing777 Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 I have not been to that shop, but I often look at the site - what you guys have noticed applies to a lot of the used guitars they have/get.....if I read about a certain make/model to avoid, there it will be! And the prices here are usually double......costs so much to get anything here and then Customs takes a whack! BluesKing777.

It was a bit garish, but had a wonderful shimmer, so it fascinated me. He was a New York City cowboy: bald in front, long hair in back, and point-toed boots. "I like my git-tars just a little on the trashy side. Their strings is way too tight, and their tops is dyed...." (Sorry about that Chris Wall, but it's one of my favorite songs) I can get behind a 'bird after a few drinks.
CAMELEYE Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Be prepared, BK. Skinny neck and double X bracing.
BluesKing777 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Be prepared, BK. Skinny neck and double X bracing. Yes, a friend had a 70s (I think) J200 version of that brace and neck combo - he liked it..... I played a Hummingbird F/Sale at another shop with the skinniest neck they made - sounded fantastic, but the neck was like a pencil! BluesKing777.
