btoth76
Hello! Interesting story, with superb pictures on the evolution of the first pony car. Not to mention, how surprised am I to find out, that the emblem was designed by a fellow countryman of mine, baron Charles Keresztes. http://jalopnik.com/the-strange-journey-that-led-to-the-original-ford-musta-1475204609 Cheers... capmaster
Funny how misleading a topic title can be. Before opening I thought it was about a Fender, then it turned into the animal, and finally a car. :o Nicely done, Bence!
btoth76
Hello Capmaster! Indeed, that was my intention. To be honest, I wouldn`t have posted it at all, if I couldn`t make this joke. :D Mahogany is a calling word around here. :D Cheers... capmaster
For a moment I considered adding a Thunderbird thread in same manner... :)
btoth76
Good idea! With the title "Thunderbird 350". Our friends in USA would think about a Ford, bastardized with a Chevy small-block engine. :D http://royalenfield.com/motorcycles/thunderbird-350 Cheers... capmaster
As a Gibson player and Ford driver, I must strongly object to bastardizing any of their products. ;)
btoth76
I used to be a Ford-fan. Owned a couple of II and III-generation Mustangs... ...but it was before I started to work in the automotive industry. Since then, I hate cars. :D Cheers... capmaster
Did you know that Royal Enfield India built the only mass-produced Diesel motorcycle ever? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_motorcycle#Royal_Enfield
btoth76
Almost as a great idea, as a 4-cylinder Ford Mustang. :) Cheers... Bence
capmaster
I think you're not a fan of engine downsizing and eco boost, are you? I remember an old saying I try to translate here: "There's no substitute for displacement apart from displacement." Specific fuel consumption and air pollution are a different story though. btoth76
Well, not really. However, this is much complicated than that... I am very skeptical about the current tendency of installing 3-cylinder 1.2L turbo-charged engines into cars. It fits into the greedy attitude of manufacturers to produce goods that won`t last long. I am driving an old 1997 Dodge Avenger (Mitsubishi Galant) with a 2.5L engine - which considered a big engine in Europe. It still passes the EU5 regulations, and consumes 2 litres more of petrol than a Suzuki Swift (GEO Metro) with it's 1.3L engine... Cheers... capmaster
My son who is an apprentice in the 2nd year of training recently replaced the oil-lubricated (!) timing belt of a Ford Focus 1.2L Eco Boost engine. The car had about 180,000km mileage, and the owner said he wanted it done early just for being cautious. The engine was definitely fine, better than a new one can be on principal. Yesterday he replaced the driver disc of a 2.2L 162kW turbo diesel Mondeo with about 168,000km on its counter. It took him 39 minutes without any help of anyone. Not that easy on a front-driven car with a weighty triple gearing and transmission. His boss didn't believe it but it was indeed the time from driving the car onto the auto lift until the foreman drove it out for test drive. The customer had brought the car and was waiting during repair. Guess why I'm so proud of my son.
