New Les Paul Studio Fireburst

I have 14 guitars and I have a couple of Gibsons, an ES335 and a 1968 SG that I have owned for 40 years. I had an Elitist LP Custom that I loved, but I didn't have a Gibson LP. I really wanted a Standard but I had purchased several guitars and an amp this year and decided on a Studio. They had come down drastically in Canada when the dollar was at par. I chose a Studio in Fireburst. I was not really turned on by the color but I already had a Wine red Elitist Custom, and a black ES335 so I chose the Fireburst. I had a pro set up done before I picked it up. After playing it for the last 2 hours I can't believe how nice this guitar feels and sounds. I really love the 50s neck and the pickups are perfect for my blues Ala Gary Mooore, Clapton, Buddy Guy. The top is really sweet with a light grain and a very nice burst finish. It has the smell of nitro and it will be a while before I get used to that. I know there is the honeymoon period and I have been there and done that, but I can't help feeling that I have finally found my #1. I have always heard of people calling a guitar number one but I had so many they all seemed to fit the bill on a given night, but now I think I have it. I will post pics when my Camera Batteriescharge up, and it will be my Avatar. I just thought I would share my thoughts.

You are absolutely correct. The fat 50s neck on the 58 seems fatter, but the 50s neck on the Studios seem to be a little thinner. All I can say is that I am not a big fan of thick necks and this one seems to be perfect.

My 68 SG has a baseball bat thick neck and I don't mind that either.

All I can say is try one out and you will either love it or hate it. So far it is sweet.

im probly gonna buy that sme one, how are the pickups? if i dont like them ill get seymour duncans

i cant really try it out because i think they only let adults play the gibsons at guitar center, or they might have put the register there for a different reason

I hate to say it on the Gibson Forum but take a look that these two together. I would say a very close match.

I didn't notice it until I had them sitting side by side.

When I showed it to my wife she said, "don't you have another guitar just like that", and I said NO! DuHHH.

Nice axe. I have been looking into my next Gibson, I really would like a custom, but after buying my Silverburst this year, it may be a little hard to convince Household 6 I NEED to drop 3 grand for another guitar so soon (but thats a whole other issue). I'm not very fond of the 50s fat neck, but I like the chunky PUs. I am thinking of going with the Classic mainly because of the 60s neck (ala Standard). I did not realize there was a difference between the 50s neck on the studio and the 50s neck on the Standard. Can anyone shed any light on the differences between the 490s on the Studio and the 498/500 on the Classic?

Thanks:-k

reaslly hard to find a #1... i just recently did and she is a gibson (lp standard faded in a beatiful honey burst), i now find myself playing with her only and my other guitars stay in their cases... thinking about selling the lot of them and keeping the lp as #1 and my thrusty 15 year old epi as backup (that is until i get a sg standard or a gibson double neck). Congrats!

I really wanted a 60s neck, but I have purchased 3 guitars and and amp in the last year. When the US buck came down our prices up here in Canada dropped down to amazingly low levels. I was able to pick up the studio for 1099.

I had tried the VOS 58 Standard and the neck was pretty chunky. The neck on my studio is almost exactly like my 1990 ES335. I measured the width and thickness, at the 1st and 12th fret and they are about the same so I am happy with it. My Elitist LP Custom has the 60s neck and it is a few mm thinner but that is all.

I have a total of 14 electrics, including 8 strats. I find though I am going more and more to my Gibson HB guitars.

They just seem to have a fuller richer tone.

I got to thinking about the necks so I did a couple of measurements on the three I mentioned. I thought they were slightly different but all came out at the same measurements. I guess the two I have with the bound necks just look thinner. They are not. So I guess I don't have a slim taper 60s neck on my Elitist.

Great guitar... I have the same one, but with chrome hardware (I think they only did around 400-500 of those before they changed to gold hardware). I have switched to Seymour Duncan PUs (Jeff Beck at bridge and Jazz at neck position), and I have never been happier about a guitar before, and I have had lots. This will probably be my main axe for the rest of my life.

Hey Thainen, I just noticed that you and Plankspanker have the same avatar. What color is that guitar?

I do like the Gold hardware on my guitars. I have 5 with gold. 2 Strats and 2 Epis and my Studio.

I have seen pictures of one with the chrome and it gives it a totally different flavour. I have Seymour Duncan Design hbs in my Fender master series Esprit. I love the the way they sound. I am pretty happy so far with the 490/498s so far. I am not one to change pickups. One thing I really do like is the chambered body. Great tone and light weight.

Not sure about the avatar guitar colour, just something I chosed from the gallery here because I liked the look of it. :-&

Here's a picture of me and my Studio Les Paul from a photo session last year...

I know it's hard to see all the details, didn't find any picture of just the guitar at the moment.
