String Height Questions?

Hi everyone,

I have a Les Paul and so all of my posts have been on that forum but I recently picked up a Fender DG8s Acoustic and could use your advice.

I have checked the neck relief and it appears to be quite straight, well set.

My only issue with this guitar is that I would like the strings to be closer to the fretboard.

The nut distance to fretboard measures within spec so I am guessing I could benefit from a lower bridge?

I have no idea how to go about sources such a bridge for this guitar, must this be ordered only from Fender or can I get one to fit with lower action from an online source?

I appreciate your thoughts and direction, thanks!

Hello..

For acoustics you need to get the bridge saddle piece filed down... Not that easy to do by yourself accurately if you have no experience at it.. Take it to a luthier, its an easy quick job for them :)

Or you could try it yourself if you muck it up you will just need a new bridge saddle piece.

Pop the saddle out. Stand it up on its edge on a piece of fine sandpaper on a flat table top, and sand down softly - you are trying to take a wee bit off the bottom of the saddle, while keeping the bottom flat against the table top. Noyt hard to do, and if you screw it up, its cheap to get another saddle, and try again. That Fender has a drop- in saddle. By the way, you will rarely be able to get an acoustic action as low s on a quality Les Paul, in my experience.

Earlier this year while on vacation we were at a Hardrock Cafe. I was missing my guitars so I bought one of their versions of this guitar. I redid the nut slots, adjusted the neck and sanded down the saddle to where it plays as good as anything I have.

I would take it to a luthier to get it set up or if you bought it locally, get them to do it. You'll enjoy it more if it's setup properly

It's been a great guitar not needing any further adjustments and great to grab when you' need to take a guitar and don't want to worry about it.

I would not adjust the saddle before measuring the neck relief and adjusting and then knowing when to stop and measure and start adjusting the nut.

thanks for your comments guys

Duluthdan, I like your solution to take off the bridge and sand the bottom down to decrease string height

thanks!

NOT THE BRIDGE - the saddle - the plastic / bone / white strip that's IN the bridge.
