A Weighty Matter

Is 10.5 lbs. too heavy for a Custom Les Paul?

I found a multi-sparkle that I like, but I was surprised at the weight of this guitar. I've heard some Les Pauls have been as heavy as 11 lbs.

My question is based on not really knowing how much a good Lester should weigh.

Any help here would be nice.

I weighed my Custom years ago using a bathroom scale and it's at least 10 pounds. But, what guitarslinger said - you can't judge how a guitar will sound based on just it's weight. If I were going to buy another LP, I'd definitely be looking for something that weighs less; 10 pounds doesn't sound like a lot until you have it hanging on your shoulder for a few hours.

You can't judge how good a guitar will sound based on soley it's weight.

I understand that slinger. Believe me when I say the bands I've worked with usually had guitarists who played Fenders. My own telecaster weighs in at 8.5 lbs. and resonates well when you play it unplugged. I've not played many LPs in my life. My experience with Gibson has been with semi, and hollow body guitars.

A good sounding guitar is always what I look for. If it speaks to me unplugged, it usually sings to me plugged in.
