jakatone
did any of you use the both pickups and could anyone compare them....the gibson seems a bit pricey....almost twice as the SD.they are both P-90 pups in the humbucker size
sycephant
I really like the P-94's but I have not tried the Phat cat. I saw a prototype SD pup last week at a local shop that is going into production. It's half P-90 and half hot rails. Really cool idea and even cooler looking. For the overall design, it's a humbucker size pup and is like 3/4 P-90 and 1/4 hot rail. Dealer said it would probably go for a little over $100. Back to the original question though, I would buy the SD and try that out first but make sure you can return it. I that's not the sound you're looking for, go get the Gibson. I tried many different SD pups but always ended up using a Gibson. That's just me though.
jakatone
i guess you´re right....the price of the SD´s is tempting.i´k looking for a less aggresive and a brighter sound for my studio
sycephant
For the neck or bridge?
jakatone
i was thinking maybe both....an overall change in the sound....but maybe just the neck....still not sure
sycephant
Well, that already has Burstbucker pros which I really like. If you put it in the neck it would sound great. I have a p-90 in my BFG and I love it so that works. I would start trying different duncans in there. I believe they let you replace pups for free within 30 days if you don't like them. Or just go play different Les Pauls with different pups. It's a pain finding the right pickups with replacing them over and over. It's all a matter of taste. I would start by going to Seyour Duncans website and listeneing to them. Good luck!
