zombywoof
OK - so it ain't a guitar but I am happy as a clam. Once upon a time, being influenced by guys like Stuff Smith, I was fair to middlin' blues fiddler. Really don't play much any more but I still love violins. Found this one and just had to have it Only reason I bought the instrument is that it was made locally. Did a bit of research on the guy who made it and found that after serving in the Civil War he became a ship's carpenter. Around 1900 he moved to my neck of the woods where he worked as a pattern maker for the railroad. Also had a pretty good reputation as a wood caver producing ceremonial gavels and the like. What is really cool about this one is the tuners. Instead of the standard wood friction tuners he used bullet nosed Grover Champions. It is in crappy shape, almost split in half but I will have that dealt with down the road. Hey, only ran me $46 so I have no complaints.
blindboygrunt
Zomby , have you ever had anything 'ordinary' happen ?
Kaiser Bill
What a great piece of history. I used to own a Jacobus Steiner copy. Got it from a bluegrass player from Arkansas. It had rattlesnake rattles inside it. Couldn't play but a few simple tunes on it. I should have kept the bow...LOL
Red 333
It's great that you recognize and appreciate the craftsmanship that went into making that fiddle. I bet knowing its history adds to it, too. Glad you shared it with us, and saved it to share with future generations, as well. Red
