Experience with the '65 Elitist Casino

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with or owned one of the 1965 Elitist Casinos. Unfortunately, no one around here actually has them in stock so I can't try it out. I'm looking to purchase one for my father's birthday next month and being that he is a huge fan of The Beatles and has pretty much every Rick guitar and bass I figured I'd grab him something similar to John Lennon's casino. I'm just somewhat hesitant on dropping around $2,000 for a guitar that I've never played and every other semi-hollowbody guitar I own is a Gibson Memphis. Any input or alternate suggestions would be awesome! Thanks.

I don't have any experience with Casinos but the regular MIC standard Casinos should be pretty good guitars. I have 5 Chinese Sheratons and the quality of them are excellent. From some reason people hate on newer MIC Epis but I think there great

If you can find one available snap that baby up. Your dad and you too will absolutely love it. I have played several and they are superb instruments worth every dollar spent to get them.

I agree. My EC is my "go to" guitar. [thumbup]

He will love that Guitar. Especially if he's into The Beatles sound. I have Guitars of every make Solid, Hollow & Semi Hollow. My Casino's are my go to Guitars for most everything. They are so versatile.

I was able to try a standard Casino and an Elitist side by side in 2013. The regular Casino is OK but the Elitist is far superior . Well worth the additional money to me. Mine has a narrower neck however. It may not suit everyone. Check the specs on the current models on Epiphone's website if that is an issue.

I have both - an MIK Standard and an Elitist. The Elitist is a much nicer instrument, it sounds better, both acoustically and through an amp, it's nicer to play, but for some reason the Standard speaks to me more. Just one of those things. However, you can't really go wrong with an Elitist.

Wow. That's a heck of a deal.

Red 333

Red- that's what I've been thinking. Guess the economy has everybody down.

I just can't give it away.

I just can't give it away.

Don't!

There's nothing else in your collection like it,

and you might end up suffering seller's remorse.

Would buy it from you if I didn't already have

four instruments cut of the same cloth!

The elitist 65 Casino is a sublime guitar to play..... If you can find one! Get it! Where are you based? Coda music in the UK have them at the moment. Another possibility is getting an inspired by John Lennon '65 Casino, these are a lot cheaper (about £700ish) than the elitist but come with an impressive spec for the price. I haven't played one but I'm sure somebody on the forum could you give you the lowdown.

You can of course check them out on the epiphone web-site

I've got a MIK (peerless) Epi Casino, this is an unusual apart in the "guitar hall of fame". This guitar is sounding very original, really love it, I try Elitist, nothing more except a better luthery ;)

Every "Elitist" Casino I've ever played was exceptional! I don't own one (yet), as I have a 1966, Kalamazoo made, Casino.

So, I'm covered, for that sound. But, the Elitist version is Always a strong temptation! [thumbup]

I had a 60's Casino for a few years which was very nice guitar, but I never really liked the action on it and eventually sold it. I picked up a Korean Casino a few years ago which was a decent guitar once the wiring and input jack were replaced, but I sold it to get an Elitist, and it is a beautiful guitar. I don't think I'd ever sell this one. It's finished nicer than my Gibson ES135 which came with a plastic nut that cracked and a selector switch that had to be replaced after a year. The Casino is light and very nice sounding acoustically. The only change I made was to put on a black pickguard and speed knobs.

Elitists are wonderful. I have an old Peerless and an Elitist and they are both great. The Korean Casino gets the most play because the Elitist is so nice! But in all seriousness, if you like hollowbodies with P90s I can't think of a better guitar (perhaps an ES-330, but even then ...).
