After being after a Puerto Rican Cuatro for a long time, I finally got one today. It has a great sound and was quite inexpensive. The tuning is BEADG and it's a double course instrument, with a total of 10 strings. The photo below isn't mine as I haven't taken pictures of it yet, but it is the exact same model and looks identical. Anyone else here play one? Very cool and unique instrument.

When I was looking for mine there were a few on US websites and they were only a couple of hundred dollars. Outside of Puerto Rico they seem quite hard to find, especially authentic PR made ones. I found mine in a UK based Folk & World Music shop which specialise in all sorts of unusual instruments, however it wasn't made in Puerto Rico. The neck on it feels similar to a classical guitar with a very short scale and with the BEADG tuning it's quite easy to learn as a guitarist. It's sound is somewhere between a mandolin and a 12 string guitar.
