MorrisrownSal
Guys, I saw a thread on another forum about custom runs. For example, the UMGF had a custom run 00-18VS custom run 10 years back. I think it would be great if we could do a special run 50-guitar (hopefully) run that we provide input and spec out... For example, I would buy a Bird-esque short scale Ren "wren" inspired beauty' designed to honor the man, and be a special guitar for all of us. Spruce over hog, special burst, instead of a hummingbird guard, one with a wren..., open back distressed nickel tuners with creme buttons. No pickup. Inlays on fretboard... I am open here...maybe GAF in 14th fret? Anyways this is what I'd be gassed for. What do you think of the idea? Would they ever entertain the notion? Maybe special pricing if we could guarantee 30? Mr Morton? The GAF Wren? Whatcha think? What would your custom run be?
zombywoof
G&L did it years back. They took a poll among the Guitars By Leo forum members to see what features they would like to see in a custom run of guitars. G&L then built a small run of the guitar and sold them to forum members at a very easy to afford price. The only way you could probably get Gibson to get involved would be to go through one of the big dealers like Wildwood. Probably would not be cheap though. If I could have a say I would really like to see them to forget the additional bling and build something like a 1955 J-45 RI with the non-scalloped bracing or an maybe a 1937 SJ-200 RI with the three tone bars or a three tone bar J-35. Basically something that is unlike anything Gibson offers in its catalog.

modoc_333
They aren't accepting custom orders right now... but if they were, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to build one that made much of a former employee who now works for a competitor. I can understand they desire to do it, and they would too.... but I don't see Henry approving it. Now, taking that aspect of it away, it would be cool and it might be possible to convince them to do a custom build like that. Of course, they would need to be presold so they aren't just a regular limited run, and we would have to all somehow agree on specs, but i think it's a good idea! -Keith
62burst
My vote for custom Forum run hasn't changed much; 'still would like that 12-fret J-45. Only thing that's changed: rosewood's getting a second chance around these parts, since the slope shoulder, short-scale J-45 seems to be the perfect specs to keep those rose' overtones in check. And, since dreamin' is free: SLOT HEAD ! Keith- Good point, a Ren Wren not terribly likely. Sal- where were you January 2013? MorrisrownSal
62, I guess I will check out that thread! I don't remember it at all, but who knows? I was around then. I hope I didn't respond on it; then I'd be... Embarrassed. Phew I am not in that thread. Keith start it up! 12 fret SJ . Roll Tide on upper frets! I think it would be great if we could do a special run 50-guitar (hopefully) run that we provide input and spec out... A similar idea went up here on this sub-forum a couple years ago or so when Ren was still at Gibson. The thought was a "custom" job that could be purchased by forum members. I recall a good sized thread discussing models, tonewoods, scales, etc . . . nothing came of it. Can't remember if Jeremy was brought into it or not, but apparently Gibson wasn't interested. Too bad because a good number lot of members were interested, including me. .

Smurfbird
I'd want a 1-11/16" nut. Many of you likely prefer a wider nut. It's all a matter of finding the right combo of board members who have the same preferences. With that said, someone should figure out the many variations that would need to be agreed upon in order to make it possible. Each variation threatens to lose members who feel differently. For me, 1-11/16" is a must. So I'm in that group. After that, I could be persuaded to vote for a J45, a Hummingbird, and a real LG-2 (with sunburst finish). Woods are more negotiable. The less bling, the better. Though if we went with the Hummingbird, I'd want Tulips.

This one only went ten pages [thx a lot, OWF ; ) ] : Forumite Custom Run If you come to the Homecoming you can play my 12th fret 45. It was designed and built by Lynn Bundy. She is the lady that programed all of Gibson's computer programs. She also designed and built a custom J-185 with a stampede of horses on the fretboard. She is going to sell that guitar so you better hurry if you want to play it. Mine is for sale as well....

62burst
Hogeye- Really regret weekday toil in the salt mines not allowing for a Bozeman visit in June for Homecoming. The absence of a J-45 12 fret in the Gibson lineup forced my hand to the other G-guitar (brought about with a little help from Ren Ferguson): 'May be looking at one of the Smeck Radio Grande reissues for the rosewood-in-a J-45 (deep)-box-12-fret guitar thing. Hope Sal gets Hogeye's 12 fret; that would make for an interesting a/b.

wonderful remark
I think the 12 fret J45 is great.. HOWEVER, I think a 12 fret AJ would be better... with Koa... or Walnut..

It is already scheduled to be one of the limited runs for March.... without the Roll Tide though! Haha! They will hang on the wall at $2999.99 "A rare and unique Southern Jumbo, sonically enhanced with a 1930's Wide X top bracing, 12 fret-to- body construction and LR Baggs element VTC pickup system. Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, MOP parallelogram fingerboard inlay, historic "Only a Gibson is Good Enough" headstock banner and vintage sunburst lacquer finish." -Keith

The big difference is mine has a 5 piece high figured Maple neck with exposed peg head. It has no overlay. The peghead and neck are sunburst and it has a gold banner. It's pretty cool.I would love to hear the Guild. I bet it's a great guitar.
