Aye_Ron
Hey, just need some advice. I have this Brown Gibson USA case and I'm not sure what to price it as since it was bought for me as a present years ago. The case is brown leather, fur interior, has a coded lock, gold plated locks and a "Gibson USA" logo on the case. Here are some pictures: I've been looking online and I'm seeing prices for similar cases at around the $199 mark. It seems like an old case, almost like a rarity. Not sure if Gibson make them anymore either since I can't see them on the Gibson website. Anyone have any ideas on what year this case might have come from and what price would you put on it? Thank you!
skilsaw
$200 for a new quality hardshell case seems to be about right. But if it is real leather, I'd bump it up to $300. Don't be taken in by people who squack at the price. Tell them you are selling an artifact of American Guitar History. It is a chick magnet for sure and will look good behind the seat in an early '70's mgb or triumph GT6.
Marshall Paul
as far as I know, they still make them for models like custom etc.
billymagnum
just doing a search showed me virtually the same one but in almost perfect condition for $200. i dont see any indication that these are rare. they seem to be standard issue on all of the high end acoustics. i have a feeling this sort of stuff should be left up to bidders unless you want it to sit up for sale forever. I can't determine if it's real leather or not though, I'll have to research that a bit more. I think $200 seems about right for the one I have, considering there's a lot of scratches and signs of wear on mine. as far as I know, they still make them for models like custom etc. Yeah, I've been seeing stuff like that too. Haven't seen any in this shade of brown though, but a lot of similar models. just doing a search showed me virtually the same one but in almost perfect condition for $200. i dont see any indication that these are rare. they seem to be standard issue on all of the high end acoustics. i have a feeling this sort of stuff should be left up to bidders unless you want it to sit up for sale forever. I've seen those too on ebay and stuff, so I guess $200 seems about right for mine. I haven't seen any in the shade of brown that I have though, if that makes any difference. It's still a lovely looking case though, I think it'll go for about $200, maybe a bit of leeway for the signs of wear on it. Thanks for the responses! billymagnum
The first one I found was brown. It's listed on reverb.com. Only difference I can see is your "usa" is pink for some reason. Is it supposed to be like that iris it marker or something? Either way its only worth as much as someone wants to pay for it. If you need it gone, price to move. charlie brown
Pffff...the only "Historic" cases, are the real=vintage Lifton's! http://www.stevekirtley.org/liftonhistory.htm Doesn't mean the other's are bad, or less viable. Just not as "historic," IMHO. But, most newer cases are far more "padded" and protective, in truth. CB
billymagnum
I'd like to know where did the whole pink interior thing come from? You would think the natural choice would have been just black or brown but no. BAM pink lol
charlie brown
I'm thinking that "pink" interior was a nod, so to speak, to the old vintage Lifton cases, as they had pink interiors, as well. Some of the vintage black cases, had yellowish/gold interiors, while other's of the same era, and style, had maroon, or even purplish interiors. billymagnum
I meant where did it come from on the originals
charlie brown
Oh...well, Who Knows??! Why does a case maker use ANY color they do? I guess it just seemed "right" at the time? CB

Jimi Mac
I'm not sure these things are rare at all... One came with my Y2K Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Limited Edition reissue in Wine Red... Hot pink interior and apron (shroud of Turin) as well... (Not sure I currently have any pics of case because I don't ever intend to sell "Scarlett") I have had folks remark that a real Gibson comes with just such a pink interior on their cases... But my 2004 (that I just sold to a fella that has attended this forum since 2009, I think, from Texas; TexasFM3) Gibson Les Paul Standard Limited Edition; "Blue" (whose name is now up to the new owner) came with a charcoal colored and snake-hide textured case with a dark grey fuzz interior with a dark grey apron... That was certainly a "real" Les Paul. I think many runs during many eras came with many different variations...
thejay
Not sure where the pink/tan came from but it was pretty standard in the 90s I know that... I always thought they were cool vs the lots of the black/black, gray/black and white/black cases. Lots of the USA pink/tan had combo locks too from my experience.
