ksdaddy
I sold my last two lap steels last year, a 1948 Supro and a 1953 Magnatone. I got the fever again recently and sought out an old Fender but this 1953 Gibson became available locally. I certainly didn't steal it but I did okay. Seems to be all original except for the tuners. I hanve not removed them to see if they made any extra screw holes but if I do decide to put on a set of repro Kluson strips they will likely cover any extra holes regardless. I've just been noodling. I tuned it to C6 which is a 'legit' lap steel tuning and I am completely LOST. I believe I'll stick with the open E that I'm familiar with. Unless I hear a compelling argument that I should UNlearn what little I know and abandon any intuitiveness that open E gives me. Or I could just go nuts and tune it to G so I can play Dobro too. Searcy
I have always loved the aesthetic of the lap steel. It's literally a hunk of wood with a pickup and some string but still they are elegant is so many ways.
