SHAUN
Hi. Can you tell from the s/no 0 0071 whether it'sa '59 or a '60 reissue? I think this is a 'pre-historic' guitar, if that makes any sense! Regards Shaun
Custom Admin
this number brings up 2 guitars in my system, both listed as "LP Reissue" (no year specified), one in heritage darkburst and the other in heritage cherry sunburst. both from 1990, and both shipped to japan... SHAUN
Thanks, you're very efficient! This one's now in Europe and is in Cherry. I assume the first '0' doesn't have the same significance as it does in the newer VOS, then? While you're there, my GC R0 numbered G0 6213 has R0 in the cavity, CTS pots but instead of Bumblebees there are tiny caps like beige M&M's! Does that make sense, and would this have been a Plek'd one?
Custom Admin
yes, prior to 1993/1994 the serialization oif these guitars was "non-historic". in this case, the 1st "0" refers to the year of production. the GC guitar would have been plek'd. and i believe we did start putting CTS and 'bees in those in 2006...it's always possible that someone here screwed up, or that a previous owner swapped them out (if you are not the original owner). SHAUN
Thanks again! Final question (though I don't know if your records go back that far) original 1960/61 LP special, 0 7995 impressed on back of the headstock, tone pots date to week 36 of 1959. All looks original, but when did the numbering change from inked to stamped?
Custom Admin
my info only goes back to the late '80s...sorry.

geochem1st
Misunderstood your question, although this database is pretty good. As to when the 'inked' serial numbers changed to 'stamped': 1953-1961: Unique solidbody electric guitar "inked" serial numbers. 1961-1969: 4,5 or 6 digit peghead stamped serial number for all models, no MADE IN USA stamped below. 1969-1975: 6 digit peghead stamped serial number, MADE IN USA stamped below. 1975-1977: tagged (decal) serial number, MADE IN USA below. 1977-present: 8 digit stamped serial number, MADE IN USA stamped below. Hope that helps.
SHAUN
Hi. A couple more if it isn't too much hassle! 089181 inked on a cherry sunburst LP standard, and CR87099 inked in white on a black backed ?58 reissue. Thanks! Shaun
