More specifically, the toggle switch generally gives you neck & middle, all three, or middle and bridge. In other words, the middle pickup is always on, and you can dial it in or out as you like with the volume knob. The nice thing about this control layout (as opposed to the Stratocaster's 5 way switch) is that all seven pickup combinations are available, and can be blended in any proportion you prefer.
