62burst
I have. One hygrometer was reading 3 percentage points on the optimistic side of things, the other?- it was under by 4. Thinking you're safe in the humidity range of the low forties when you're in the "you have been warned" zone of the 30's would be good to know. Checking the accuracy of your hygrometer doesn't get any easier than this one step kit from Boveda: One Step hygrometer calibration kit. Just put your humidity meter in the heavy plastic bag, wait 24-36 hrs. The bag is clear so you can monitor as your meter should eventually read close to the 75.5 % reading the salt pack should give you. Lets you know if you can back humidification off, or had better pick things up a notch. And it's always good when you can buy a little peace of mind for less than $7. duluthdan
Salt test. Easy. Mine are right on. I have three in my cases, and one on the desk. The desk unit remotely reads the 3 case hygrometers, so i don't even have to open the case. So far, so good (knocks on wood) I had a guitar once that literally imploded, ignored in its case for 20 years. The neck pulled into the body. Cost me more to repair than the guitar cost to buy. But, it had to be done - my first wife gave it to me for our wedding. That was a tough honeymoon, I spent too much time and attention on the wrong thing, I am told. BluesKing777
I did see the test kid by Boveda, who also make the packs for Humidipak. I may try it next, thanks. Under advice, I bought 2 different brands of Hygrometers to go with my existing one and immediately got 3 totally different readings and more confusion. Investigating further, I came upon the 'Salt Test'.....my 3 have similar temperature readings, but the old one (PW) is 14% low.....and the 2 new ones 5 or 6 % either side of the line...... So I am using the Humidipaks on 'faith' and so far, so good - the weather here is wildly different every hour of the day, let alone measuring every few days, so the little packs have their work cut out for them, but fortunately so far the weather has had a few days real hot, a few days real dry then a few days really humid (today) and the Humidipaks swell a bit and save some juice for the hot stinker days..... One day, I may buy a nice marine grade weather station contraption..... BluesKing777.
