Riffster
The power of a brand on the headstock, these guitars are essentially an Epiphone with even less quality control. I like the two current Epiphones I have but they needed work to get them to play well and they still need some more. Swapping a bunch of parts do not make these guitars great players

'Scales
me neither. but my luthier/tech is seeing more of the damned things coming through all the time and it seems people can't buy on trust anymore, and a lot of well meaning but less knowledgeable folk will be caught out. I sure as hell wouldn't know the fine details for models outside those I am very familiar with. Forewarned is forearmed to some extent.

Turn these people away, show some morals and ethics. In all honesty these instruments should be confiscated from these people and destroyed. rct
It's all bulls hit. People want them. A deal is a deal because the buyer gets what they want and the seller gets what they want. You don't have to be super knowledgeable to know that the Les Paul your kid wants is 1800 dollars at the store but man this one online for 350 dollars is a steal it must be real! Fukk 'em, I don't care what they buy. rct

capmaster
A bad name to who? People that buy fakes? Who cares what they think? rct Wittingly buying fakes of products displaying a prominent name seems some very strange kind of self-indulgence to me. Neither the average listener of recorded material nor the average concert audience will ever take notice if the headstock says Gibson or Epiphone, Fender or Squier. They care for your music and your show, no matter what axe you're playing your licks on.
'Scales
very true Cap, however the person without the in-depth knowledge buying a name they have been told is a great brand that will be reliable and playable for them or the person they are buying it for may well get screwed. I personally think that sucks - they may be buying at a more normal price down the track with some 'real' fittings swapped in - the $350 LP is another story, but this happens with Epis too and the price discrepancies won't be near as great. Those knowingly buying these from the manufacturers and on-selling as the real thing is a different matter. Drog - my tech is a straight up guy and feels compelled to tell everyone who brings one in that its actually a fake. Generally they have bought on trust and are not aware of this. Makes for some cheery discussions I'm sure (not).
