missing serial numbers

I own an ebony SG standard that I bought new a couple years ago. The guitar ended up suffering a broken headstalk and some serious cosmetic damage. I paid a fortune to have the guitar repaired and the entire neck refinished. The guitar now looks beautiful and plays better than ever. Unfortunately, I lost the serial numbers when the guitar was refinished. I am concerned that if the guitar is ever misplaced or stolen I could be SOL without a serial number on the instrument. I thought of creating my own serial # and have it engraved. What would you guys suggest I do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would just stamp your name on the headstock or something else that uniquely identifies the guitar. Obviously, you really care about the guitar so I'm assuming you have no intentions of selling it so I wouldn't worry about devaluing it.
