Where to buy the Dark Fire:

Looks like it ended without a bid. If it comes back, I would definitely ask for a pix of the RIP to be sure it is included.

As for buying at Best Buy (there was a thread and some other discussion about that, including mine) -- stores the BB web site pointed me to had nothing (well, excepted for the boxes $149 special guitars;-) Looks like Guitar Center is it, if you can find one there -- I'll do some calling and see.

Remember these four words when buying used Dark Fire:

NO RIP= NO SALE!

So far i have only seen one ebay seller that included a RIP.

You will be stuck with no support, and no pathway to purchasing RIP, as Gibson does not sell these separately - might as well put your used Dark Fire in a closet and wait 5 years for a used RIP to pop up on ebay in 2014

Dark Fire with RIP - yes is good value for $3.3K

Dark Fire with no RIP - its like buying a Ferrari with no engine

ROFL! I actually did that..during the early 60s, I was driving down Sunset Blvd. in my 1934 Chevy chopped and channeled coupe equipped with a blown full-race 430 Lincoln engine, when I spotted a 1953 Ferrari Mille Miglia with its front end way up in the air sitting at Jack McAfee's Ferrari dealership. Its engine had blown at a race in Florida. $1,000.00 later, it was mine. To make a long story short, the 430 Lincoln ended up in the Ferrari, and I sold the now-engineless coupe for a tidy profit. Now *that* was a ride!!! Not very good for dates, though...it only had one comfortable seat and half a windscreen.

Great remarks. I fully agree. No RIP no Buy. That one which is now about to expire with no bids was listed at higher prices before. I am guessing it might be back with an even lower tag.

Please tell me you kept it!!! Great story. I would have had the same impulse buying reaction!

Hi MCK!

No, alas, I decided to get something more responsible (2 good seats); sold the Ferrari and bought a Chamberlain/Jaguar (still being raced in So. Cal.; but not by me...sniff). Still stepping up, LOL, I thought a Cad/Curtis would be the answer (I detect a pattern here (the windscreens got larger, but not one car had a top)). Thus began my rapid descent into vehicular hell!

In a feeble attempt to get back on topic, I'll try to write a loser country/western song about this to play with my Dark Fire utilizing its incomparable chameleon tones! Hmmm...can anyone help me with the lyrics (I'm having a tough time)?

Moral: "You can take the boy out of the hot-rod; but you can't take the hot-rod out of the boy!" (Giggling and grinning all the way)!!!

You're amazing. Would love to see photos from way back then with your cars. So the group shot of the musical instruments & the kitchen sink + car shots. Please make a web album somewhere. Would be great!!!

Hmmm, loser country/western song .... "can't take the hot-rod out of the boy".... Anyone else sensing some Brokeback Mountain theme going here? Not that there is anything wrong with that! =D> Sorry, photonutalan1, just busting your chops! Attempted internet humor. Hope it goes down well...

MCK,

No problem; I just somehow can't quite figure out how to fit a '34 Chevy hot-rod, Ferrari, Chamberlain/Jaguar, and Cad/ Curtis into a loser country/western song. I may have to rethink this concept.

BTW: Have you seen any Dark Fires in stock for sale lately?...Me neither.

DF in stock, hey, where I live simply having one makes you a guitar god. Its so rare... I have never seen one in a store! While it lasts...

Ok. The motor-head side of me is going crazy. Googled Chamberlain/Jaguar simply because I don't know what it looks like and am dying to know and all I get is hits like ... Find Jaguar Dealers in Chamberlain, Maine ... Do you have any photos? Would love to see. Thanks a bunch!

No such luck -- it sold.
