Retired
1436570375[/url]' post='1674972']Hello All, As ever, I sincerely appreciate the prayers & "Well Wishes" from everyone. I began the new medication (something called Xtandi) a week ago. As for progress (or the lack of it), I will have no idea for several weeks. The oncologist will be doing bloodwork to evaluate my PSA level and determine if this treatment is succeeding based on those results, but he typically waits about a month to make sure I have reached a clinical level of the medication, and that my body has stabilized and adapted to it. As with most of the treatments, there are some unpleasant side effects that I hope will minimize as I adapt to it. If they don't, Oh well...as I said, they're unpleasant, not unbearable and I am committed to doing what needs to be done. As with all of it to this point, I am hopeful and praying that it works. And that's about all I know at this point. Again, thank you everyone for your care and concern. Bless you all, Don Thanks for your update Don. As unpleasant as those side effects may feel the goal is for you to get better. Hang in there and prayers your way for a full recovery. God bless. Retired
Hi Don. Prayers for your recovery here. Hey, I've gone threw this cancer crap so from experience, don't always believe in what doctors give you of chances for survival but rather believe and trust in God. Doctors told me I would not survive my advanced brain tumor and had me wrote off. Seemed I went through hell but I kept trusting in the Lord and I believe He truly pulled me through it. I had lots of bad side affects too that lasted around 3 yrs. That was around 28 yrs ago, so never give up.
L8_4thesh0w
Glad you're feeling better physically. Hopefully that's a better sign than the PSA numbers and this latest treatment will make the difference for you. Still keeping you in thoughts and prayers. flyingfrets
Having something of a setback here. Went to work last Friday, felt like my back was kinda stiff & maybe a few spasms. Went to stand up to leave for lunch & my legs nearly gave out and felt like napalm went off in my spine. My boss helped me out to the car, went to the E.R. and they admitted me. I'm still here... Compression fractures in several vertebrae from the tumors. Beginning new round of radiation & don't know what lies beyond that. Wishing I had better news, but it is what it is. Thanks so much for everyone's concern. Means a lot and always will.

brc
Damn, sorry to hear that. I feel so bad for as I went through cancer in 2009. Luckily I am cancer free now. Some one told me once, ( they were going through it also) that a set back is a way of showing how strong you are. Like a punch in the gut, you just take a step back , catch your breath and then charge ahead. Every one here is pulling for you. Take a breath and charge ahead, and stay strong. Sorry to hear the bad news though. When I went through cancer, I always felt more Sorrow and remorse for others going through that crap more then I did for myself. I can hardly believe your going through this stuff and still working a job. Doctors would not let me go back. I wasn't allowed to drive. Wasn't supposed to leave the house, they had my blood count down so low. Praying for a turnaround for you.

milod
Don... All my best wishes too. I do think that positive attitude is important whether through faith or whatever avenue. It seems that can literally make changes in one's body chemistry. That's what has worked throughout recorded history. But regardless, it's a time too to see our battles are part of our mortal condition where our role may be less for ourselves as for others. It ain't emotionally easy - but it forces us to see life and our place in it more clearly. If we ain't scared when the reaper - or worse - seems nearby, we'd be insane. But in ways, perhaps we also can be more realistic about the human condition and value what makes us human than those without the experience. None of it is easy; I guarantee projection of good vibes, prayer, however each of us sees it, is en route from many of us here... m

Retired
Although I don't know you, Flying Frets, I'm truly hoping for a turn around on your health. I wish I could be more eloquent with words like Milod here. I never really know how to express myself with words, I guess I've seen too many victoms of cancer who just wanted to sit idol and let cancer take its course and gave up the fight. Grandparents, relatives, friends, coworkers. I go to the cancer survivals day park each year to celebrate with those who've fought it and won! The stories they tell can bring both tears and joy! Fight the course and stand firm!!
