SC_Wannabe
Does anyone know what the bracing is like in the J45 Donovan? Is it like the bracing was in 1965? Somehow I'm dubious. Has anyone played one? Does it sound like a 1965 J45/50??? Thanks, Dave
zombywoof
Gibson offers no guitars with the non-scallop bracing used from 1955 to 1968. The Donovan model comes with the standard scallop X top bracing you find in most Gibsons.
E-minor7
Donovan's cherry 1964 J-45 had the ceramic saddle - an important factor to his sound which cannot be reached by the tusq ditto of the contemporary models. That said, I've heard some pretty convincing ones on the Tube.
SC_Wannabe
Thanks for the bracing information. I was just wondering if this guitar could replicate the mid 60s J45/50 sound, but without the bracing I doubt it. I guess if I want that sound I'll have to go vintage...
