charlie brown
the best epiphone is probably a old one back when they really were as good as a gibson While I'm tempted to agree...IMHO, the recent (and current Casino) "Elitist" versions are every bit as good, as any Epi's ever made, in terms of construction, fit, and finish application. IF they had Nitro finishes, and 2-hole truss rod covers, they'd be identical. Even the current "Chinese" versions, nowadays, are pretty darn good! And, while very close, again, if they'd just go that little extra, and make them truly authentic, in every small detail, (like a Gibson Truss Rod, and 2 hole TRC) to the Kalamazoo versions, I think you'd be hard pressed to tell any difference, aside from Poly vs Nitro finishes. Funkdoobiest Guitarist
[thumbup] My biggest, baddest and blondest of them all, the Elitist Broadway of course. It throws Epiphone chic at the Gibson L5CES and gets away with it . . .
Funkdoobiest Guitarist
In my opinion my elitist Casino is the best Epiphone I have played. I recently got a Sheraton II Pro and really like it. I had a Dot and liked it a lot. The only one I was not so hot on was a Korean Les Paul Studio-Standard I owned up to 10 years ago. i like the casino . and recently played a shearton 2 im in love all over again with epiphone..... and those brodways look so fluid... Funkdoobiest Guitarist
My choice is a basic Casino. For $200 extra you can update the basic model to play as well as the Elitist or Lennon model. Throw in a set of Gibson tuners for $58 and a pair of Gibby P90s for a buck and a half more and you have one of the best electric guitars made by anyone for $800. The Beatles knew this 50 years ago. yes im starting too see that i need a casino and a shearaton2 super dope guitars [thumbup]

StRanger7032
My vote goes to the 90's vintage Epi Les Paul Limited Edition. Mine is hands down the best sounding electric guitar I've ever played, even compared to my US made Gibsons and Fenders. It plays like butter, and the action is amazing. I intend to buy another one if I can find one from the same factory (Fine Musical Instruments, Korea) in good condition.

ohyew812
I've had eyes on the Epi acoustics for about 6 years now, and NEVER have I seen such great guitars as in the last 2 or so years... Thought I'd never own an Epiphone acoustic until I A B'd the new ones, and ended up with a guitar that I never would have considered before. Not a fan of cutaways, but this one is perfectly done without excess, and the sound... oh boy, that TONE!! :) Super happy with the Shadow eSonic2 system... and $399??? You kiddin' me?? LOVE IT. Funkdoobiest Guitarist
I really enjoy the acoustics. Older the better for me. I love the way the aged wood has a boomy sound. For the money, I can't think of a better guitar. Currently I'm trying out an LP standard and it's a lot of fun, so my opinion may change but the jumbo bodied older Epis are what I play out with mostly. i dig your vibe , i have found a new respect of epiphone acustics by simply playing /comparing against other guitars... Funkdoobiest Guitarist
The Japanese Epiphones are the same as Orvilles, but with a different name on the headstock. There is no comparison to anything built in Korea. The Japanese models have the correct headstock, correct body thickness, SAE hardware, 2-screw truss rod cover, and the correct headstock binding and overlays (on top of the headstock, not routed under the nut). The only real difference between a Japanese Epiphone and a Gibson, besides electronics, is the lack of nibs and the polyurethane coating. Also, LP customs and whatnot will still have rosewood fretboards in lieu of ebony. thanks for the info so why does my china custom shop play so well....i dig this guitar

ErickC
Cosmetic, material, and dimensional differences (outside of the neck profile) won't affect playability, that's all in the setup and precision of manufacture.

Junior Jr III
I was early answering this one and as I now have two LP's I've got to say that when I want to crank up, they do the job quite well. LP Standard plays very smoothly. Obviously well set up and I haven't even changed the strings since I bought it. It's probably a tie between that one and the Blackback Pro. I feel cooler just strapping them on. (updated avatar) Epi acoustics still get a workout every week.
