horand
Can anyone explain the difference in sound/tone between the BL circuit board pickups and the PAFs? The HB-L came in two versions (around 9k or around 13k)and PAF´s are around 7-8, so the Lawrence pup is a bit "hotter". It´s not easy to describe "tone" but they are different species. The neckpup HB-R is in the 7-8k area and have a sound on its own. Some people love this pups, some don´t. To make a long story short, if you are into Page/ACDC/PAF/T-Top land - these are not what you need. but if you are more into Hendrix/Gilmour kind of tone (when they used Les Pauls) these will do the job. here´s a clip:
Zakkid
I've got a 1987 LP Stnd that came with DL circuit board HB's. Totally agree with Horand. The DL circuit board HB's are "spongy". Personally I kept the neck DL PUP and roll off the volume a touch to get a very David Gilmour LP-era vibe. Hated the spongy for bridge tone...needed more attack in the bridge. Went with Duncan JB. This post is old so hopefully you found what you were looking for.
