Stanton Deckadance wishlist/feature requests

Recommended Posts

Improved support for use as a VST and complex MIDI scripting. My dream is loading DD into an Ableton track and mapping the Push's User section to control it. This is the Singularity. I've gotten pretty far with this in 2.42, even controlling Push's LCD with sysex from DD as I did with Traktor and M4L:

Help me complete this goal.

Thanks!

I have a Yamaha AG06. Wich only outputs 2 channels.

And a Denon mc 2000. That would do the job. But Master out isn't Balanced.

I would love to use both at the same time. Yamaha as Master out. And Denon to monitor.

But I'm not able to configure it in that way.

It would be awesome if I could use 2 or more Devices in the setup.

Things I would like.

1 - key detect built in

2 - Being cable to create crates. The playlists don't quite work but are okay.

3 - Multi sort. For example being able to sort by BPM then sub-sort by Key then Title.

4 - Semi-smart when sorting by BPM that will pull on track from your crate that are plus or minus a configurable BPM.

Adding a feature I would love that I forgot earlier.

5 - I want to be able to set the library directory and have Deckadance automatically monitor it for changes. It should add and remove any new tracks and analyze new tracks, all automatically. A change log can be generated so you can view changes.

General improvements I would like to see.

1 - The ability to mass load files without the application crashing. When I converted over to Deckadance I had load things in batches of about 1000 files.

2 - Analysis had to be done in batches as well, of about 1000 files to prevent the application from locking up.

3 - The Key field never properly populates. It is always blank. I have previously opened a trouble ticket to know effect. Right now I have Key stored in notes which is less than ideal.

Can you please make a mapping command for the tabs so I can scroll through all the different views with a knob?

and a library for samples only

and beat tracking, with a virtual spinning deck for scratching, to know where the virtual needle is at.

PUT BACK THE CONTROLLER MAPPINGS FOR THE MAUDIO XPONENT AND MAUDIO XSESSION PRO NOW!!!!

Since version 2.50 we are going to support all the controllers via MIDI scripting. We are reprogramming the old supported controllers... it's a work in progress, we apologize for the inconvenience. You can get the last updates here: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/125798-dj-controller-support/

A slicer! Similar to those in Virtual DJ, Serato, & Rekordbox DJ.

Also the ability to have the play button, or a button, play from the last beat, so you can hit it fast for a stutter effect [smile]

Guest MichaelO912

please I really want to see a sync to half tempo and sync to double tempo option for mixing 70/140 or 60/120 bpm tracks without having to manually manipulate the tempo markers of each track.

ability to save database and playlists to a file folder location of choice, therefore allowing the ability of using an external drive to store and store music on, making it transparent between pc/laptop, etc. Thanks.

Guest Quintin

To be able to 'send midi clock' so as to sync external machines would he great!!!

In my case it would be to sync my TR8 and TB3 with Deckadance as the master... I'm currently looking at changing to Traktor p2 because they have this feature BUT I don't want to as Deckadance really good, I like it, it makes sense and it works for me...

Still using Traktor but really looking forward to fully switching to Deckadance, here's what I'm missing:

Things Traktor has and Deckadance doesn't:

+ Allow interaction with main GUI while options window is open

+ GUI knobs (and faders) should not "remember" how far the mouse overshoots once the knob reaches max or min value. The knob should start turning the other way as soon as the mouse changes direction. In Deckadance, users are required to first move the mouse back to the point where the knob reached the max/min value before the knob starts turning again. This is very inconvenient especially because computer mice feature acceleration. In Traktor, the knob starts turning the other way immediately as soon as mouse motion direction changes from upwards to downwards and vice versa. Traktor's implementation is essentially more ergonomic and therefore better.

+ Something like "Flux Mode" in Traktor. Currently we have the Leap function which is very nice. Flux mode would only apply to scratching.

+ Song markers (this is not the same as cue points). Markers are useful for annotating song structure (load, fade-in, fade-out, normal maker). Markers should be displayed in such a way that they are not mistaken for cue points. A good way to do this is to display cue points along the bottom (as is currently the case) of the waveform and markers along the top. Users can jump back and forth through markers using two buttons (next marker, previous marker). To jump directly to a specific marker the user needs to drop a cue point at the same location.

+ "Loop cue points" (engages loop of specific length starting at cue point position). Loop cue points should be represented using a different colour (e.g. blue for loop cue points, yellow for normal cue points).

+ "Backloop" (retrospective loop) to loop "that bit you've just heard", i.e. to loop the last N beats. Traktor's implementation works nicely.

+ Something like "Flux Mode" in Traktor. Currently we have the Leap function which is very nice. Flux mode would only apply to scratching, playback catches up with playback cursor as soon as jog wheel/waveform is released.

+ Full-cut EQ and filter please!!

+ Copy deck, in Traktor you can drag a deck with the mouse to any other deck and the deck is duplicated exactly, including playback status and position. This is super useful for complex mixes.

+ Waveform zoom, this also should be scriptable too.

+ EQ and Filter bypass buttons should be available from the GUI.

+ GUI button to jump to start of song.

+ More flexible beat-grid options, because some songs have timing irregularities such as varying tempo, time signature changes, etc.

+ Tighter automatic sync: When using the seek command via a script, the tracks end up out of sync even if sync is engaged.

"Would-be-nice" features:

+ Portable mode so we can run DeckaDance off USB pen drive, with all settings stored in a folder alongside deckadance2.exe, instead of using the Windows Registry. This also makes it easier for users to back up their settings.

+ GrossBeat and SmartKnob editor menu button (bottom-left corner) is too small! I mean, the curve nodes are actually bigger than this button, which is unreasonable.

2016-09-27-093522%20Grossbeat%20menu.png

+ When triggering Grossbeat pads, the quantize function always snaps to the next beat, rather than to the nearest beat. Note that the nearest beat some times has already played if the user hits the pad after the beat. The quantize function should understand that the user meant "the beat that has just played", rather than "the next beat". Note that this works correctly when dropping cue points. For Grossbeat it should also work this way. Grossbeat would simply start playback at an offset when quantizing backwards.

2016-09-27-095725%20Grossbeat%20snap.png

+ Loop player needs an option to sync to master deck. Currently it can sync to deck A, B, C or D, but the selected deck is not necessarily the master. So basically there could be an extra option in the deck drop-down labelled "Master".

The nitpick:

+ Checkboxes in the preferences dialog box are confusing (it's hard to tell which are checked and which are unchecked). A simple "tick" would be clearer:

2016-09-27-100349%20Checkboxes.png

+ If we close and then re-open the Preferences dialog box, it always opens to the "Audio Setup" page and does not remember the last viewed page. It would be nice it it remembered the last view.

Last but not least, things I like:

+ Scripting engine blows Traktor's clumsy mapping editor out of the water :)

+ Light on resources.

+ Can host third-party VSTs, and can work as a VST itself.

One more thing, on the Stanton website, please make the Deckadance download links easier to find, I spent literally 5 minutes looking for the demo download links...

Can't think of anything else at the moment, comments welcome.
