One thing I wish Gibson would go back to…..

I really like the tapered headstock of my '23 L-2. I read that the taper was designed to give a bigger break angle for the strings over the nut, but I just think it looks sooo elegant!! All the strength is needed where the headstock meets the neck, so it works that way….with CNC machines it would be an easy fix……Just really love that look……anyone else?

Gibson does it on reissue models. My Nick Lucas, the OJ and the AJ have the tapered headstock. Gibson dropped the tapered headstock, I think, in late 40's early 50's.

Never knew any of this Gibby headstock stuff...Just noticed that the headstock on my recently acquired Epi EJ is more tapered than my Gibsons. It's also noticeably larger than the Gibsons.

Here is the headstock on my 2006 Legend. The taper is one of the first things I noticed about this guitar. Not sure if and how it adds to the tonal characteristic.

I would settle for Gibson figuring out a natural top J-45 is a J-50.

But yeah, I like those tapered headstocks. I also prefer the old recatangular bridge over the belly bridges.

So, how do you feel about the stairstep headstocks?

My Advanced Jumbo has the tapered head stock and I honestly forgot about it until this thread, doesn't matter to me either way. As for the stair step headstock.... no thank you. Those are plain ugly.
