saturn Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 I was never a big Bon Jovi fan. Even if I was, I wouldn't admit it here. Richie Sambora's playing never did much for me either. But I do think there is some great guitar work, both rhythm and lead, on this song. Plus the way it's recorded, the guitar work is so articulate you can really hear it all perfectly.
Dennis G Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Yeah, I know I'm old, but here's the "Runaway" that I remember:
Riffster Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Actually I am 46 but that's the "Runaway" that came to mind first. I always had respect for Bon Jovi, even when I was more of a Heavy Metal/thrash Metal fan back in the day. Bon Jovi as a band always had the goods. I was precisely dusting off my "New Jersey" LP a couple of days ago and what a great record that is, the guitar work is great too.
LarryUK Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I get fed up of people knocking Bon Jovi. Both Jon and Ritchie are excellent at what they do. They've written loads of great songs. So what is it that people hate? Jealousy? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOUtsybozjg&list=PLmfMgqsFYhSNeEQTdjfx-u9zai4KyIa2n This is a great structured song. Well played. Great solo.
LarryUK Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 While I'm at it. I wish I was Ritchie at the moment. Who wouldn't want a girlfriend that is a great player? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBwsV4qlbsM
cody78 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 'Runaway' is a great song, probably one of their best. I like Bon Jovi from their debut to These Days, after 1995 I lost interest and found they lost their sound for the most part. Their albums New Jersey, Slippery When Wet, Keep The Faith & These Days are classics, but I think Crush, Bounce, Lost Highway and so on are pretty mediocre. I remember reading a long article about Bon Jovi and found it strange how Jon sees the band as a business and Richie, Tico & David as employees. I guess it works though as Jon certainly isn't short of $'s. For me 'Dry County' from Keep the Faith was the bands best moment and really displays Richie and the band as a whole as a brilliant players. This Live From London concert was fantastic. I remember getting it when it came out, but Dry County wasn't included on the VHS for some unknown reason.

You have to treat it like a self employed business.
saturn Posted September 7, 2015 Author Posted September 7, 2015 I don't like him so I don't listen to him. Done. Ha! When I was posting this thread, I asked myself whether it would be Evol or FZFan who would would be the first ones to dump on it. Conratz, you won.
kidblast Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Laughing at Saturn's post! I don't mind me a little Bon Jovi, but it gets old fast for me. My wife loves the guy,,, she cranks the tunes when they come on pandora or she's hitting it on spotify I just give her the "really babe? seriously???" look, which usually gets me one of these.. :P
