ksdaddy Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 A few months ago I bought a pair of early 70s Gibson mini humbuckers to put into my '71 LP Deluxe. I had been using DiMarzios for 18 years and just wanted to go stock...just a personal thing. I thought I could use the mounting screws from the Dimarzios, which were the same as the original (I had put the D's in there in the late 90s with no alteration). Nope! Gibson changed the screw size at some point in the late 60s or early 70s and the screws that came with the 70s set was larger than the screws in the '71. I was at the butt of a cosmic joke. The solution I came up with was to drill out the mounting plates and use 4-40 stainless screws. Nice idea, but the heads of the 4-40s were considerably larger that the 3-48 screws that were stock. Not a huge deal, I doubt anyone would notice. Except ME. Functionally fine but every time I look at it I feel sick because it's NOT something I wanted to do and looks amateurish. This morning I got an email from Stew Mac. All is right with the world. $30 and I can make this much more correct. I knew it was something I wanted to correct at some point but I thought I would have to get some aluminum flat stock and start from scratch. Replacement bracket and stuff
LarryUK Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Not Stew Mac, but worth a look. http://www.martinsixstringcustoms.com/products/johnny-hiland-signature-knob-set
