Serpent67 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Got this one on a trade. Supposed to be a special wine red, but I never seen them with covered pups. It's an 06 and appears to never have been apart. I had to adjust the neck and that was the first time that cover was off. Any ideas on the pup covers. Figured I would ask before I go to lengths of looking for cavity markings. Maybe a GC model, possibly? Thanks
cjsinla Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Looks like a cherry SG Standard without the trapezoid inlays from here. Most Standards seem to come with covers.
Jon S. Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Appears to be a SG Special with pickup covers added(or replacement pickups). Email pics of the guitar and serial number to us at service@gibson.com and we'll be happy to check it out.
stein Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 The cream colored switch cover is a clue the guitar has been altered. So, it's very possible someone has added covers or changed pickups. No worries- I don't see where that would make the guitar more or less "valuable". In fact, if you like the way it sounds and such, could be a good thing.
Serpent67 Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Thanks all. I will do that, Jon S. I would like to know how it came factory. I'm second owner and the seller bought it new. I did not ask where though. He did say he was not a guitar guts type, so I assume he did no major mods. He may have tackled the switch plate and knob though. It does have the Gibson embossed pots and factory solder. The harness looks mint.
kidblast Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 certainly not a standard, no binding and dot in lays. the guess on a pickup change is probably the right one, but there is plausible deniability there it seems..
Serpent67 Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Well, many thanks to Jon S. It came back as indeed being a wine red. Someone for sure has been in there for those covers. I actually prefer covers and would have done it myself, so it Just saves me some work. I'll check the joints though just to be sure they are good to go and not cold. Thing sounds awesome and I love this guitar. My first SG. Thanks again to all for the input.
