NHTom Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 So after watching Surfpup's tele build, it stirred up the gas............... A few things to do, but enjoying it so far. I'll get some better pics in the sunlight.....pouring and dark now. NHTom
surfpup Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Oh yeah, that's nice. Let's have all the details.
capmaster Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Congrats, Tom, she looks very pretty! I guess anybody could take this blame easy... ;)
BigKahune Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 . I really like the look you've got on that one. Great job. . B) .
NHTom Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 Ok, Maple neck/fingerboard. It's their "modern" neck with the truss rod adjust on the side. Alder with quilt on top in their brown dye Seymour pickups Tried to get some better pics of it, but it's a tough one to photograph since it's been so cloudy here. NHTom
Rabs Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Sweet.. Whats the sound like.. Usual tele type twang?
NHTom Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 It's a bit warmer than my am standard tele..........great clean/almost strat sound in the middle position. Tele neck sound and warmer than tele bridge sound. NHTom
Rabs Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Sounds cool.. Really proper Teles are too twangy for me... If I ever got one a humbucker would have to be involved somewhere :) I do remember playing one of those Baja Thinline teles once.. I remember liking it a lot..

If I ever got one a humbucker would have to be involved somewhere :) If you go hot on the bridge pickup - 9 or 10k it gives it a good bit of grunt. Then put a P90 or humbucker in the neck and you're set.
BigKahune Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 . Didn't notice it till you posted the bigger body pic - that body binding is cool - flamed maple? .
NHTom Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Yes, it is. I really want to get a better pic, but it's been very cloudy all week..........first hint on sun and I'll get one that really shows the wood. NHTom
NHTom Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Looking for opinions................. I normally don't like pickups with any surrounds or rings........... I know they make chrome tele rings for the neck pickup......I'm torn. Mixed feelings on the "open" look of the neck pickup currently, but afraid the chrome ring would be too much. I know they are cheap, so I might order one and just lay it on and see how I feel (without doing screws). Like this http://www.guitarfetish.com/Telecaster-Neck-Pickup-Chrome-Trim-Ring_p_1525.html Thanks, NHTom
capmaster Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I guess I would leave the neck pickup alone. Probably I would even do so if the guitar had a bright top finish.
BigKahune Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 . I like the open look (no ring) with the chrome lipstick by itself. It's a fantastic looking ax just the way it is. .
surfpup Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 It's a fantastic looking ax just the way it is. I agree. Tele's don't need pickup rings.
NHTom Posted September 13, 2015 Author Posted September 13, 2015 Yes, the more I look at it, the more I think the ring would be "too much". Did some more setup on it today......really starting to come together. Still no sunlight this weekend, but here's a better shot that shows the wood a bit better. NHTom

Like this http://www.guitarfetish.com/Telecaster-Neck-Pickup-Chrome-Trim-Ring_p_1525.html Thanks, NHTom I think it's a good idea- that is, get the ring, and have a good look for awhile before you decide. I think it looks great the way it is, but also, as for being "too much", I don't know about that. Might be, but the guitar is over-the-top as it is. The chrome ring is no more chrome than the bridge. Personally, I couldn't have a preference unless I saw both. But I can say it looks darned good the way it is.
NHTom Posted September 14, 2015 Author Posted September 14, 2015 Thanks, I think I'll grab one on my next order. Maybe lay it on with a piece of scotch tape and see how I feel after a few hours of walking by it......lol. If it doesn't work for me, it can go in the parts bin and make it's way onto a future project. NHTom
