aerohead Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I have GarageBand on my iPad and would like to start using it more to record and was wondering if it is possible to send a recording to another GarageBand user so they can open it up and add tracks of their own to it?
duluthdan Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I have Garage Band and haven't even figured out where the "Start" button is yet. Used to email files to a song writing parner in Fargo - this was a dozen years ago using a program called Sony Acid Pro. We emailed files back and forth and all remember is that it had a rather unique file extension related to Acid Pro. With all the advances in tech, there has to be a way.
aerohead Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Give it a try Dan. It's fairly simple once you get past turning the count in off and extending how many bars it is initially set at. You also need to pick the microphone as the instrument. After that it is pretty much just clicking the record button.
kwalker201 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I think if it like the iMac as long as you save it as a project then you can send it back and forth

Only drama - You would have to save and send the whole large file uncompressed - they can be pretty big. The ones you hear in forums have been mixed down, compressed, coded, jinxed, plinxed and pleluffed for easy playability and streaming. BluesKing777.
Jesse_Dylan Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I'm with Dan. I couldn't figure out how to turn off the metronome, and when I finally did, I realized it had stopped recording about 10 seconds in! I've got a nice 8-track, a Shure SM58 (and want a 57 too), but it would be pretty handy sometimes just to record with my iPad assuming the mic is all right.
aerohead Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Jesse at the top right you will see a + sign you need to click on that to allow you to record longer than the 10 seconds it is set for. I went thru all those growing pains too. In fact my technical skills on the app are also severely lacking but I will give it another shot once there is snow on the ground for 6 months and I spend most of my time indoors.
Run Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Hi, forget GarageBand ans invest a small amount for JamUp and the possibility to record and share. Using an acoustic, you won't have to invest a lot since you won't need to buy all the goodies related to electric guitars. There is a lot to read about Positive Grid http://www.positivegrid.com/jamup/ Basic Jamup is free...just buy a virtual acoustic amp and up you go. https://www.positivegrid.com/bias-fx/
duluthdan Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Might it be possible to upload GB files to a Drop Box server and do it that way since the files are perhaps too large to email?
MorrisrownSal Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 To get GarageBand to record past the 8bars, the key is that "+" sign in the right top corner.tao it and choose automatic. Also, I strongly endorse the Apogee MiC. It sounds so much better than the iPad internal mic. Finally, it would be great if in GarageBand, one could set tempo, key, record a track, and share it in a google Docs-sequel kind of way for collaboration. I don't know if that can be done. Maybe it can?
duluthdan Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Anybody that can pull a screen shot off of GarageBand Has my endorsement for a Nobel Prize. Sharing large files should be able to be done with ICloud or Drop Box. Gotta be a way. Of course, there is such a site with the collaborative song writer in mind - its called "Songspace" https://songspace.com/?utm_source=intercom&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=4day-reten

Maybe it can? This is the exact same setup as I use, apogee mic and Garageband. It is most likely the most easy to use set up available today that still gives the user some edit options and a few effects like echo and reverb. I like it. It is so much faster than using a computer and having to deal with hardware recognition problems, soundcard compatibility, viruses etc etc. Lars

Jesse_Dylan Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I wonder if I'll ever open and use my 8 track thing. Maybe I should get one of those mics and just use my iPad. Can't handle two mics at once tho right? I also have a short scale bass I might want to plug direct. Maybe. I'm so lazy. :(
