Music with no character

Homz

I should have put punk on the list too. It stuns me and makes me ill to think that The Sex Pistols are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I love British Classic Rock, but I really think they deserve an *** whipping for the whole punk thing.

what is reggeton?

I thought you'd never ask... and I have to say this before you listen / watch it:

As KGB standard has noted before, there are some things that if watched can never be forgoten.

As you have been warned, I post it without fear of retaliation.

Enjoy (the last seconds of life as you knew it).

(weird mix of the wors of "music", and the assholes say it is derived from reggae, which it clearly is not, it is plagued with words that dont exist and expresions put all wrong, and they all go with the same beat... damn FL studio for that).

Jeez, lots to cover here...

Music that sucks!

Modern Country

Rap

Hip/Hop

Techno

Boy Bands / Girl Bands

Kid Bop

Disco

I agree 100%. Modern country is just pop sung by rednecks' date=' and 99.999% of the "artists" have the integrity of an acorn. Rap has just plain sucked since the mid-90's (the last groups to come out that I thought had any sensibility were Cypress Hill and Onyx); I miss the days when it was about having fun, and the few "hardcore" rappers out there were at LEAST socially conscious!!! Nowadays it's all about the bling, *****es, blam-blam and blow. Useless trash, and the whole hip-hop/rap mentality shows a degradation of everything their predecessors fought for (sound familiar?!?!?). Techno sucks, but I like the slutty girls who listen to it (and Ministry/Prodigy/Rammstein have some good songs, and even natural instruments in there...but they're more industrial than techno). Boy/Girl bands have always, and shall always, suck the king one. Kid bop...has its place, with kids, but is not to be taken seriously. Wild Cherry was cool, but disco sucks (and what's worse than disco? KISS' disco song "I was Made for Lovin You"....crossovers often suck).

I have to admit that I agree with most of the list except modern country. It's getting closer to Rock than the rest of the list. At least instruments are still being used!

No. It still sucks. Listen to Steve Earle or Lucinda Williams, then concede quietly. As far as the instruments, well, that's subjective, because thanks to ProTools there aren't many people out there REALLY using that much in the line of real musical instruments anymore. We should have higher standards.

im gonna have to disagree with you on a couple of those. Modern country is good' date=' and there's one rap song i do like. [/quote']

I just thought maybe if you re-read what you said you'd come to your senses...lol

And I don't like republicans either.

AMEN.

I don't get how you can make a blanket statement that all these genres of music suck. There is some great and influential music that has come out of these genres.

When blanket-statements and stereotypes fit' date=' they're EASY to make. Nothing great about any of it. I challenge that statement. And the only "influence" out there that I see is portrayed by general greed, baggy pants, drug abuse, violence, lack of morals/accountability/stability/responsibility and misplaced priorities. You're right. VERY influential. And it proves the point that it sucks even more.

Should we talk about no character?

Metal and it's variations. Megadeth and that kind of stuff are really really lame music.

You could not possibly compare Megadeth and stuff with any musical genre enlisted by Homz. Especially when it comes to character. I'm not just saying that it sounds like crap and that is incredibly annoying, but it's lame, it's pointless and it has no direction and no character.

God... and them peple think they have something to do with Black Sabbath.

I can listen to one specific Album from Slipknot and enjoy it. So as some Zakk Wylde, Ozzy and Iron Maiden stuff even though it really lacks character.

I can't listen to Malmsteen, Megadeth, Manowar, Rammstein and that sort of crap.

You go ahead with those brainless high speed solos. I really rather listening to MMMBop.

Megadeth I can handle. I like Dave's messages, and the music may be an acquired taste, but it's more palatable than the crap out there they call "metal" nowadays, all detuned and hookless (cough...TOOL...cough)...sorry, bro, Slipknot makes me wanna' vomit, along with ANY band with a "rapper" or "DJ" as a member. 99% of the sh*t that's came out in the past 15 years sounds alike to me, and not in a good way. I'm sick of it. That and everyone out there who plays "black metal" or "death metal", singing like Cookie Monster and tuning down so low you don't need a bassist and you can't hear NOTES. Now THAT is lame. I don't like Zakk Wylde that much personally either, because after 2 or 3 songs I've heard ALL his licks and gimmicks, and it's all repetition after that. I like SOME of his songs with Ozzy, but that's about it. Black Sabbath, however, ANY Black Sabbath, is where it's at, so I agree with you there. But I like Maiden, because it's Maiden! :-

People hate rap because they can't relate to it. Just because you can't relate to it' date=' doesn't mean all of it sucks. People said the same think about punk in the 1970s.

And how does rap exploit women anymore than some of the crap metal bands out there or even some of those great classic rock bands that we all so love?

As for disco...it has its place. Hey, even Johnny Rotten admitted that the Sex Pistols enjoyed listening to it on occasion. A lot of disco sucked, but some had some create funk and soul influences/sounds.

[/quote']

I'm GLAD I can't "relate" to rap, man. I'm glad I have civilized social behavior, a job, and some class even if I don't have salad-shooter blade 30-inchers on my car (which ISN'T an Escalade!). When rap started out, it was party music, and even the street music was SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS. Even the "angry" early hardcore rap was MEANINGFUL and encouraged proactivity and awareness, NOT popping caps in asses because of the wrong color clothing or because someone's selling dope on YOUR dope-route. Same with REAL punk rock, it was socially-aware and revolutionary, not just drivel (and I did say REAL punk rock, not 90% of USA wannabe sh*t, and DEFINITELY no West-Coast "punk" aside from the Dead Kennedys, Blag Flag and Bad Religion). Women are exploited in ALL forms of music, but only in rap is the OWNERSHIP and ABUSE of women not only condoned, but encouraged. Lastly, if it weren't for disco, how would we know where the line between cool and suck lies.

Old rap is cool' date=' new rap is just "cookie cutter" for me now. all its about is sex, drugs and money...thats it.

country is too pop. it needs to be played with wash boards, jugs, fiddles, and classical guitars.

disco, wow uhhh idk about that one.

but show we talk down on these people who are exploring new things? is being creative is bad?

[/quote']

Everything you said was right on for the most part, and about that last statement, I think you SHOULD talk down to people following the herd and lacking any positive progress. Copycatting crap just means it'll go on and on. I think people should take the POTENTIAL in certain things and fix them. Then at least you're gonna' stand out instead of being just "another one of THEM".

I should have put punk on the list too. It stuns me and makes me ill to think that The Sex Pistols are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I love British Classic Rock' date=' but I really think they deserve an *** whipping for the whole punk thing.

[/quote']

I will disagree with you on this. Punk HAD a social importance. I stress HAD. "Punk" today is nonexistent outside of the few remaining originators. Punk ceased to breed after the early 80's, and anything "punk" these days is crap. The Pistols were awesome. Johnny Rotten couldn't sing (and still can't), but his messages were profound. The band actually wasn't bad (especially when Glen was in the band, as he is now, in a sense; and when they turned Sid's amp off live), and the '96 reunion was tight as a seal's butt. Modern "punk" and "rock" bands can't pull that off. Pro Tools makes 'em lazy, and they have the charisma of a 2x4". Rotten's voice is grating, but it's SUPPOSED to be. And I certainly respect his call for revolution more than anything B.I.G. ever slurred out of his mouth.

And reggaeton is ignorant crap by hacks who can't fit into any of the genres it's SUPPOSED to be derived from. Save yourself a headache and don't waste your time looking any of it up. You'll be sorry.

OK, I think I've said my bit. Although I think I'd add "southern rock" (I love Duane, Ricky and a select few other guitar guys from the "genre", but the rest suck), the black/death metal and anything post-Dominoes Clapton to the list. :-k

I too am afraid of new and different things. ](*,)

jk Sorry I've noticed little is said of new music around here and when it is it isn't positive. I feel there are outstandingly good artists in each genre but they are most of the time over shadowed by the crap and cookie cutters that are pushed onto the radio and commercials.

The genre I feel that is suffering the most at the hands of the people who love it is the blues. Middle aged white guys, for the most part, have little to no soul. Yep I said it, I know some of you guys are here too and I'm creeping up to that category myself. But I am tired of going to outdoor concerts and open mics and any blues labeled event and hearing the same bland blues sang by the same trying to be smokey and soulfull white guys. If you came to the gig in a BMW or Mercedes and have more than a couple hundred dollars in gear I dare say you have little to sing the blues about and if you try, you are not doing it any justice. Leave it to those who feel it b/f you kill it.

Disco I can agree with b/c I've tried but I can't find a damn thing good about it other than the disco themed frat parties we used to have in college. Even then it was nothing more than a joke.

Most metal does suck. But i have to say i do like a little prog metal. i like the change in tempo it sorta reminds me of a serial killing Pink Floyd type music.

also ilovegibsons jimi didn't play gibsons. It should be like dear slash or dear Jeff beck or Dear Jimmy Page.
