Yup.. very modded by the looks of it.. Different tuners so theres holes on the back and the tailstop looks like the holes have been filled (not that well).

And obviously pickguard with very different electronics and pickups...

This is what it should look like

I don't remember anything like that at all. To be fair that was the year I got married, so my memory may not be great, but I don't remember that bridge or that switch location or that...plate on the back? I'd keep walking if I was you.

I think worse than that. It should have a set neck! Something is very rotten in Denmark.

credit to you for being prepared to ask the questions here rather than just jump in GA.

This one might be of interest to you (i.e pre 1980 at similar money to the strat and firebrand)...

some folks swear by them and you could probably swap the tuners for something more appropriate for similar money and your luthier could whip up a replacement backplate.

Looks like a heavily modded Gibson Marauder/Sonex/Firebrand hybrid to me. I think this is not a Les Paul - all the LP Firebrands I ever saw had set necks. I also never saw a bolt-on neck Gibson Firebrand guitar in person. Somehow strange... [confused]
