BluesKing777 Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Just saw this on UMGF.... Is it a Shubb or an Elliot? Shelliott? I love my Shubbs and Elliot , so........I want! http://www.shubb.com/finetune/index.html BluesKing777.
Jesse_Dylan Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Wow! Sure is good-looking! I can't put it on upside-down and leave the low E open like I can with a Shubb or Kyser or Planet Waves NS though, so deal-breaker for me!
fromnabulax Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Seventyfive Bucks! Since I like to keep one in each guitar case I would have to take out a second mortgage to keep up.
fortyearspickn Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Looks like it''s well designed - both easy to use and something that would work just right. Plus well-built. I'd shell out 75 clams - if it's built anywhere but China. I'm not 100% fat, dumb and happy with my Kyser nor my G7. The K doesn't have quite enough pressure and the G pulls some strings out of tune. Unless I fiddle a lot with them.
ponty Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 The most I have ever spent on a capo is $43 - http://www.elderly.com/accessories/items/ULTGTR.htm It works really well. The new Shubb looks great. and I would like to try that. $75 may be offputting though, but when you consider that most people here spend $1000 plus for their guitar, and have more than one, it may be worth the spend.
duluthdan Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 In a related note, Shubb also has a capo for thick necks, ala the Legend, for $22 USD. http://elderly.com/accessories/items/GA74DLX.htm Currently use a Dunlop Victor - but am not 100% satisfied, wish I could find one that could live on the guitar like the Paige.
Boyd Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 The most I have ever spent on a capo is $43 - http://www.elderly.com/accessories/items/ULTGTR.htm I got one of these myself about a month ago and really like it. But the truth is, I'm just not much of capo fan and don't use them very often. I do like the way this design pulls evenly on all the strings. I'd shell out 75 clams - if it's built anywhere but China. $30 cheaper, and it's hand made in Oregon too.
PrairieSchooner Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Ah, "innovation" and marketing! Without them, how would they ever sell us anything? Also, make sure you get the price up there so folks will think they're getting something just as good as the _______ for a few dollars less. I still have the first Shubb capo I ever bought, maybe 30 years ago? Or more? Still works like the day it was made. Sorry Shubb; shouldn't have made such a well designed and well made capo in the first place. The several I already own will easily outlast me.

(I think I like the sound of the rubber sleeves on my Shubbs, sometimes more than the sound of the nut on various guitars....and I notice the new sleeve is different than the old Shubbs'?) Though I still want the new one! BluesKing777.
rbpicker Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Sorry, I guess I really question if the world needs ANOTHER capo. I'm sure I don't. Rb

Not so on my Gibsons, though (bone nuts in all cases).

Rb I might point out, there is an entire population of us guys that pretty much needs another one because we can't find the last one we bought. And of corse, the excuse is if we buy another, chances of finding one the next time go up.
rbpicker Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 LOL... hadn't thought of that, Stein. Good point. Roger
Jesse_Dylan Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 So...if I am hearing this right, what is needed is a capo with BONE instead of rubber? Hmmm..... No, just the opposite--we think we might want rubber nuts (lol). Feel like that might actually solve multiple problems for me...
Jesse_Dylan Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 This thread has reminded me that I used to own (and probably paid quite a lot for) one of the original G7th Performance capos. I'm really annoyed that I can't remember what I did with it. I never did like it, but that's not the point! Maybe it would have worked really well on a short-scale guitar, which I had none of at the time but have three (!) of now.
blindboygrunt Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 May be right there Jesse. I have a Newport one that doesn't quite close enough on one guitar but works perfect on another.
Jesse_Dylan Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 My Kysers are great on most anything, but I think with light, low-tension strings on a short scale, I get a little sharping of notes. Bound to happen when you can't adjust. Wish I could find that G7th. :) Maybe it's in a drawer somewhere. My Planet Waves NS capos work fine on everything. Lost one of them somehow, too. I never lose picks, so why the heck do I lose capos?
rbpicker Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Jesse, look in the clothes dryer. It's probably inside that single sock whose mate can't be found. :) Roger
