grampa
The phrase " dating an older Gibson" conjurs some smarmy reply about how much we love our Gibson's, but I won't go there.
hellion102792
http://www.provide.net/~cfh/gibson.html#serial It was definitely made after 1931, because that's when they started 4-digit serial numbers. It's possible that yours is a 1941 model, because of the letter "G" in the serial/factory order number (1935 was A, '36 was B, etc.) If you could post a picture it would be really helpful. EDIT: Is it a J-35? http://www.provide.net/~cfh/j35.html I was looking there and the picture of the inside of the body caught my eye, because the serial is on the neck heel with a number in red pencil. Unless they did that on all their acoustics though..
