Top wrapping: is there any reason never seen on SG nor on Custom Black Beauty?

Hi folks,

I know it has been lot of discussion about top wrapping but I have never found anything about that: I've never seen an SG nor a Les Paul Custom Black Beauty top wrapped, is there any known reason for that, did someone tried?

I'm curious

That "gold" plating just wears off anyway.

No need for quotation marks. It's genuine gold which is very soft. I think gold platings are a waste of resources. One guitar of mine, an Ibanez made in China, has it. There simply has been no other choice. I prefer chrome over everything else but can live with the very few guitars of mine featuring, or better said, having featured nickel.

I would LOVE to see a pic of that, top-wrapped. And, of corse, hear your observations on tone and string tension.

The strings would run across the tuning levers at the bottom and across the knurled tuning screws on the top. [biggrin]

I don't think it would work anyhow. Besides the tuning capability being sacrificed, I think the strings would already mar the guitar finish without even touching the bridge saddles. [rolleyes]
