Swiss Cheese is on its way Back! (Apparently..)

According to the folks at Lespaulforum.com a few worldwide Gibson sources have said Chambering is out, and Swiss is BACK! So, chamber owners (I could end up being one..) will Chambered be a collectors item down the road or not? Personally, I'd like a collectors item, but I want the ol' LP tone back...

Views?

I have a 2007, LP Classic and a 2007 Robot... They are both chambered, I love the weight, feel and tone... If they stop producing them I will be very happy to have been lucky enough to have bought my guitars in 2007... Anything produced in limited quantity or for a short period is collectable.... But then again I also have a 1971 SG Standard with the volute... Some say its a negative. I LOVE MY VOLUTE!!!! Makes the neck more stable as it was made to do... I got the bump. I got the bump... I got the bump!!! Hahahaha :-)

I'd be more inclined to think that Les Pauls across model lines could be offered either as chambered or weight-relieved.

Gibson has already paid for the tooling and setup to do the chambering, and they are even offering it on historic reissues. All the old-guitar-tech luddites notwithstanding, I have yet to see anyone make a credible case that the chambered guitars don't sound just as Les-Paul-ish as any other Les Paul (whatever that is!).

2007 LP are chambered.

I doubt Gibson would nolonger chamber the Les Paul if they spent the time and money to analyze the sound characteristics like they have stated. Also, if you read the post the inside person at Gibson stated:

5) If you still want an old school Standard with the Swiss-cheese holes? You wont have to wait very long

Remember, the new Gibson USA Slash model is coming out and is not to be chambered but could contain the swiss cheese holes. Gibson USA stated it was not chambered but did not say "not weight relieved". This maybe what he is refering to. We will not know until Gibson starts to sell them.

I am very happy with my Chambered Les Paul. Some people hate change. When the Swiss Cheese holes where created and found out people hated them. Chambering is the next thing and people now want the Swiss Cheese holes.

As others have said, if you like your guitar fine, if you do not like the chambered LP fine, but try them out with an open mind and not "I know it's chambered so I am not going to like it but I will try it out anyway".

Funny how some R8/R9/R0 are chambered but nobody complains about those. Sure they are chambered a little different but not all that much.

Just had to voice my opinion.

Sorry if this is a stupid question' date=' but what exactly is the difference between chambered and wieght relieved?

I thouhgt that was what chambering was supposed to do.[/quote']

weight relieving generally refers to Gibson drilling holes (nine i think) into the body of the LP, hence the swiss cheese analogy.

Chambering is actually leaving hollow parts in the body and thus getting a more dramatic decrease in weight.

Can someone give me a time-line? When did Gibson start swissing LPs ('82 seems to ring a bell), and when did the swiss cheese guitars go out and the chambering come in?

My 2006 Standard weights slightly less than my Custom. So, I thought it was weight relieved, you guys sure the Standards are chambered? My Custom is weight relieved for sure, no way it's chambered...says so right on the website.

The BFG on the other hand, that thing is definitely chambered, 'cause it's lighter than a mofo...like 6 lbs O:)

im confused.wouldnt the swiss cheese holes be noticeable?=D>[-o<

These 9 holes are located in the mahogany back of the guitar under the maple top (the mahogany back and maple top are 2 different pieces of wood sandwiched together). The only way you could know they are there is by having the guitar xrayed....

Chambering actually started late in 06. Exactly how late into 06 is unknown.

Gibson needs to work on being more informative. It seems like we all don't know what the hell is going on these days (Theres so much mixed information). It would have made more sense if they would have just started the chambering in 2007 instead of starting it late 2006. I don't believe they advertised the LPs as being chambered earlier on. As I said they need to be more informative about their products....
