Collum170 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I'm planning on upgrading my G-400, as well as customizing it a little. I'm putting a new cream pickguard on it, along with some new knobs. But I don't know what pickups to put in it. I'm looking for some cheap humbuckers under $100 bucks. I'm a big AC/DC fan and I love classic rock and metal. Can anyone give me some recommendations?

Hey and Welcome; I've modded a few guitars including some epi's and had good results with pick up from GFS. I cant speak for all of their stuff, but have used a couple different variations of their humbuckers (PAF clones which I think they called PAT) as well as p90s. Have a look, pretty affordable. http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Guitar-Pickups_c_7.html I'm sure others will chime in with other options as there isnt any shortage that's for sure. Johnny

Johnny Which of theirs do you think are the hottest?
Johnny 6 String Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Which of theirs do you think are the hottest? If I recall correctly their "crunchy pat" is around 12Kohm (bridge) and the "power rail" is around 14 (again bridge). I haven't used either of these in particular but have used their "fat pat" which is around 10 and sounds similar (not exactly but similar flavour if you will) to my 489T in my custom. Pretty sure those two are about the hottest pups they have.
StRanger7032 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 A good G-400 can rival a Gibson SG all day long with the right upgrades. I used Seymour Duncans on mine, which you could probably find used in your price range. Good luck with your project! Here's a thread I started on my G-400 upgrade that might give you some ideas: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/114421-1993-g-400-electronics-upgrade/page__p__1547821__hl__g-400+upgrade__fromsearch__1#entry1547821
