scottpaine_69 Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 I've had my 2015 Gibson Les Paul Classic for over a year now. I love it. It's my favorite of my 3 Les Pauls. So you would think I would know the awnser to this. Alot of Gibsons (past & Present) have the 57 Classic Neck, and the 57 Classic Plus Bridge. But my 2015 has the 57 Classic Neck and the Super 57 in the bridge. I haven't seen or heard of the Super 57 in anything other the the 2015 line. So my question is, what (if any) are the differances from the Super 57 in my guitar athe the 57 Classic Plus in most of the others? I know that they both have Alinco II magnets. I'm interested in as much info. as possible. The main things I'm looking for are things like output, windings and pole peices. Thanks..
BigKahune Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 . AFAIK there are three 57 Classic pups: the 57 Classic (7.5K), the 57 Classic Plus (8.3K), and the 4-conductor Super 57 (8.3K). . *(Gibson output spec) The Super 57 is the 4 conductor coil/tapable version of the Classic Plus with more winds/coil. There's a lot of conflicting info out there on the Super because Gibson doesn't call it Super 57 on their website store, it's just referred to as a 4 conductor 57 Classic. The Classic has 5250 winds/coil, the Classic Plus has 5400 winds/coil and the Super has 5750 winds/coil. Regarding specs: They're on the newer Gibson website pages -> http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2015/USA/Les-Paul-Classic.aspx scroll down to "Electronics" and there's a nice list of specs for both the Classic and the Super. The 57 Plus specs are listed the same way here -> http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2015/USA/Les-Paul-Less-Plus.aspx . .
1all's Pub Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Good info BigKahune. The Trad Pro II from a couple years back also ran the Super 57 in the bridge IIRC.
scottpaine_69 Posted December 28, 2015 Author Posted December 28, 2015 Thanks for all the info. I've played other Gibsons with the 57 Classic Plus but I prefer my Super 57. I know the output is not much higher in my super 57 (57 classic plus 8.3 and the Super 57 is 8.7) but it does make a differance for my preferance..
merciful-evans Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I tried posting up the spec lists for comparison here but it wont format properly. Its only what you can check out yourself at Gibson though. I did this a while back to see the difference myself as I have a Super 57 on my ES339 Studio and a 57Plus on my LP Less+. Subjectively I cant make a proper comparative choice as the guitars sound quite different anyway. As for gigging them, I will never know because I only really use the neck 57 anyway.
jaygl Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 My '14 Classic has the super 57 in the bridge. Very nice bite to it.
Pesh Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 As 1all said; came in the Traditional Pro II before the '14s and '15s. It seems to have a bit more bite above the '57+; not the same jump as between the Classic '57 and the Classic '57+, but a notch more, I feel.
