There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.

We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.

We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.

Have a drink or few.

Share stories.

Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.

HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.

Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister

1945 -2015

Born to lose, lived to win.

It's true. R.I.P. Lemmy :(

There are very aggressive sorts of cancer. In 2003, my then father-in-law died less than twelve hours after diagnosis. Six hours before he hadn't had any afflictions.

“I don’t really care about being the best of anything. I just want to be good and I want to be recognized. We never set out to be the loudest band in the world. It just turned out that way. And in the end, I just want to be remembered for being an honest man. Really, I don’t mind how I’m remembered as long as I’m not remembered as an asshole.”

Well, I think I now know how those who revered and loved John Lennon felt that day. A deep grief which i think is partly about the sense of loss so many people worldwide who loved Lemmy for what he was as well as what he did will be feeling. A community type of grief. I think that might be how Lennon fans felt. People might scoff at the comparison, but go and check out Motorhead's official facebook page over the next few days and you will see a band loved by its fans like few others, very much a family. I think people will also be surprised at the breadth of condolences from the rock world - the players - again, whilst many are clueless about this band, they contributed so much to that which followed their first peak around 1980.

Two days ago (the day Lemmy got his diagnosis) I met up with my best and longest term mate at his place and had a bash at playing our songs - him on a cheapie electric drum kit and me with my beat up old solid state Fender amp. He showed me the Lemmy Movie poster - 49% / 51% - that he'd bought and stuck on the wall that morning and we had a crack at Love for Sale by Motorhead. I haven't listened to it and am sure its really sloppy (we are 45 year old beginners) but its all I have to offer... the lack of bass guitar and vocals seems kind of appropriate, sadly...

I'm looking forward to moving on to celebrating Lemmy, but not today. Thanks for indulging me the above.
