rct Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I can't believe I'm the one starting this thread. Or, I can't believe nobody else reads the news, because I'da thunk everyone here would have gobs of panties in their cracks over this! Or, you all know it isn't true at all and I'm just a dope that reads the news and believes it. Or it already happened and I'm late. It was good to hear the Welcome To The Jungle back then, stompin all around the house big fat humbuckers into cranked Marshalls, so hopefully it will go well for them. I doubt it though. Axl shoulda never left the drivethru. rct
jdgm Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Yes I read something about it.....I'm not a fan of his voice though. Well they'll all make some money....are all the originals in it? If they are it won't last long.....
kelly campbell Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 not a fan of him, thus not a fan of the band. Axl is from about 70 miles from where I currently live, I used to live in that town back in the early 80's, anyway he is just too much of a prick. They were playing a venue in the Indianapolis area and they were like an hour and a half late taking the stage and when they did they were booed. His comment was " I knew there was a good reason I got the hell out of this f#4king place. Since then I have no interest in them. So they can do it I hope they do it without him...
glp2012 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 They used to play clubs in LA. I saw them at the Troubadour by accident...my friend was filming the bands that played there and I wanted to meet up with him. I like them, but don't understand the Hall of Fame induction or why people seem to think Slash is the second coming. The other bands that frequented Los Angeles clubs in that era e.g. Jane's Addiction, Warrant (Plain Jane), Poison, Ratt, Steeler, etc...were all about the same caliber. There were even some other bands that never made it that were quite good. A lot of talent in those days...I always wonder why some rise while others do not, because it's not just about talent.
LarryUK Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Perhaps they should call it 'Dollars and Pounds' instead.
Tman Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I met Axl in a professional capacity about 7 months ago and he was friendly, cordial, and generous to our staff. He joked around. I think people can change. I certainly never did anything as a younger man that I regret today. I'd love to see them and will try.
surfpup Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Prolly blow up again before they ever hit the stage. But I hope they can hold it together as they have a lot of fans who'd love to see them back in action. No Izzy though?

But I hope they can hold it together as they have a lot of fans who'd love to see them back in action. No Izzy though? If they don't have Izzy, then they aren't the original band. He doesn't get enough credit because he isn't the "lead guitarist", and doesn't have the hat. But he is just as important to the sound, and THE most important when it came to the songs. Maybe even the biggest contributor to the band.
cody78 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Guns N' Roses were the band that got me into music at the age of 7 (1991)!, so I have been keeping up with all this reunion news. Seems Axl & Slash are signed up to play a festival in April and it looks like Duff will be joining them too. I really hope Matt Sorum drums for them (let's face it, sadly Adler's brain is addled from all the drugs and the stroke he had in the mid 90's). No report about Izzy for sure, but seems he won't be part of it, which is a surprise as he did join the new G N' R for a few shows a number of years ago. He seems to not like being in the spotlight at all from interviews I've read with him and doesn't like touring either. I rekon it would be cool if they got Gilby Clarke back if Izzy is not there. I'm hoping it will be the 'Illusion' era reunited, but have a feeling it's only Slash, Duff, Axl, Dizzy (Reed) and two members of the current line up on rhyt. gtr and drums. No news of them coming to the UK yet. Would love to see this live (yes, it's cover, but one of my favourite G N'R performances), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7AYVo3iTDw
surfpup Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 If they don't have Izzy, then they aren't the original band. Agreed. And if Steven Adler could stay sober they could have the original lineup intact. That would likely be a big draw.
cody78 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 but don't understand the Hall of Fame induction or why people seem to think Slash is the second coming. For a lot of younger people like me (born in 1984), Slash was incredible, because while there was all this garbage on the radio back then, it was Guns N' Roses who seemed to keep guitar music alive and not in the 'shred' 80's way, more like Aerosmith and the Stones put together. Yes, there were others, but Slash stood out for me as a kid. Just loved his phrasing and melodic playing back then. I remember getting a copy of the 1992 Paris gig and being blown away! Watch his playing on Double Talkin' Jive. Superb! Yes, Axl was an idiot, but doesn't bother me, I just loved them for the way they played and tracks like 'Coma' from Use Your Illusion I. Great lyrics to that one for anyone who thinks Axl isn't talented. I do think Slash has somewhat turned into a caricature of himself though in latter years. These days I mainly play and love jazz, but Guns N' Roses will always be very special for me and countless other too
Riffster Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I saw them in 1992 in Houston and then again in Monterrey Mexico and I will just keep those memories. I hope this all goes well for them and I hope all of those people waiting and talking about this reunion for years will get their wish and stop talking about it.
'Scales Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 If they don't have Izzy, then they aren't the original band. Maybe even the biggest contributor to the band. I agree. Top rhythm player and guitarist in general. As was mentioned in a thread recently, I love the live at the ritz gig from the early days and also enjoy a lot of the stuff on The Spaghetti Incident in terms of their albums. Can't say I'm fussed whether they play together again, but gee they were big in the day.
NHTom Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 To be honest, they have always been on my "bucket list" of bands I have not seen, but I don't know.............. My biggest issue is how Axl handles shows. The whole "go on stage 2 hours late cause I wasn't ready" thing makes me crazy. I find that so disrespectful to the fans and their hard earned money that I don't think I can support it without being disappointed. Loved them in the day and still enjoy the old music often. I'd rather see Izzy and Rick Richards in a club. Kind of like when the Eagles got back together for the "hell freezes over" tour..........should have been called the "out of money" tour instead. NHTom
cody78 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I'd rather see Izzy and Rick Richards in a club. +1 Wish I could have seen Izzy when he came to Leeds back in 1992 with the Ju Ju Hounds. Their debut is equally up there with any G N' R stuff, just different. 117 Degrees, Like a Dog, Ride On etc, are all albums I enjoy very much too. Slash kind of peaked with It's Five O' Clock Somewhere IMO and Duff has put some pretty cool records out over the years like the Loaded stuff, especially Dark Days. I like Neurotic Outsiders too, with Matt & Duff. You're talking to a total G N'R nerd here, I even loved the Spaghetti Incident!
surfpup Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Kind of like when the Eagles got back together for the "hell freezes over" tour..........should have been called the "out of money" tour instead. I called it the "Music Freezes Over" tour, cuz it was so bland.
btoth76 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Hello! I never been a fan of them, but I must admit Slash is brilliant. He is got the tone, plays tastefully. I blame Him for being a Les Paul addict. Good luck to them, but don't count on me buying a record. Cheers... Bence
Rabs Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Yeah im a fairly big GnR fan, but for me it was always about Slash and Izzy (still think Slash is great).. Lost interest after Illusions... Saw them in 1991 at Wembley stadium with Soundgarden and Faith no More in support.. Don't get much better than that and that's how I will keep it.. No real interest in seeing them again but its cool for the fans that missed them first time around even though I agree without Izzy its not really a proper reunion ... Of course if I manage to get a free ticket I will go though :P
surfpup Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I blame Him for being a Les Paul addict. Yeah, we could've all bought dozens of Les Pauls super cheap throughout the 80s!

Don't get much better than that and that's how I will keep it.. Wow! I believe that was Izzy's last show with the band (except for the 1993 brief return at Milton Keynes). The Live and Let Die single b-side (same song live) was recorded at that show. That's the first single I ever owned and you were there! Cool! I was too young to go.

Haha, well that kinda makes me feel old.. But that happens a lot these days But yeah, it was probably to date the best gig I have EVER been too, and I don't say that lightly, ive been to a lot of gigs in my time... But I was only 17 all my friends were there and it was a perfect English summer day... While GnR were on I had managed to get to the front of the crowd... after a short while there and realising my friends hadn't made it I decided that I wanted out of the mosh pit so I pretended to feel faint and the security guards dragged me over the railings.. The thing is that where they were standing was raised so as I walked off to the side of the stage I turned around and saw the WHOLE stadium crowd looking back, one of the most awe inspiring sights ive ever seen....

rct Posted December 31, 2015 Author Posted December 31, 2015 I blame Him for being a Les Paul addict. Jimmy Page and Slash sold a lot of Les Pauls by using something else. rct

What a fantastic memory to have Thanks for sharing, but I have to say I'm a bit jealous! I remember I tried to get my Dad to take me to the Milton Keynes shows in 1993, but somehow it didn't happen. Think it was age restricted or something...bummer Plus, my parents didn't approve of Axl's use of four letter words for some reason?!
stein Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Jimmy Page and Slash sold a lot of Les Pauls by using something else. rct Both of them had, and used, real good cases.
