Hi, Regoi...

Can I first ask; gauge of what, exactly? Your question is a little vague, sorry!

I don't know what string gauges they used in 1991, but in the recent years they strung six-string solidbody electrics from the factory either with .010" - .046" or with "mixed" sets .009" - .046", i. e. using lighter top strings.

Basically no guitar is dedicated to a specific string set by design but set up for the gauges used. My preferred gauges are .011" - .050" on hardtail guitars and .010" - .046" for those featuring a vibrato, regardless what the factory strings were. It takes adjusting neck relief, string height, intonation, and pickup heights. After some months of subtle corrections the guitars typically are stable for years. Some may take slight alterations due to seasons and thus humidity changes, but that's it. Given you stay with brand, make, and gauges, and keep them nicely in tune, there's not much to do besides restringing.

All in all, you may use the strings you like and set up your SG for them, or have it done by a honest, reputable serviceman.

Hope this helps.
