Tim:

Ok, do you know his favourite band of all time? Could have had anyone. Fifty years of popular music.

It's Mike and the Mechanics..

Too hard to choose over 70 years I'm afraid.

I'd have to agree, but then again there's Beatles, Stones, CSNY, CC&R, INXS, Wilbuty's, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, oh wait, I think I just agreed and made my point [biggrin]

Depends on the style for me.

Classic Rock: The Who

Progressive Rock: Do I even need to say???

Blues: SRV and Double Trouble

Jazz: Joe Pass and George Gershwin

Rockabilly: Elvis Presley and Brian Setzer

Country: playing wise it would Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, and Roy Clark, but I listen to Johnny Cash the most

Disco: The Bee Gees (yep, I am huge fan of them, live with it)

Old: The Four Seasons

Classical: Mozart

Overall: The Beatles

That's an impossible question as I really don't have one, but I guess the group I have listened to the most over the years is Neil Young with Crazy Horse. 'Zuma' would be in my top 10 albums.

Although I never was a big fan of Mike and the Mechanics, I thought one of their vocalists, the late Paul Young (not to be confused with the "Wherever I Throw My Hat" Paul Young) was brilliant, especially his work with the band Sad Café. Free have to be up there with the best but there have to be so many, from different eras and different genres' of music.

[laugh] I was hoping one of you British gents might actually be familiar with that obscure quote Ian. I think of it when this question comes up.

..anyhow,

seriously, I agree with your point re it being too difficult - I would change virtually on a daily basis. I also would rate Free as one of my 'go to' bands when nothing else jumps out at me to listen to, so maybe they are it!

Oh it's been too many times, and I can't go back

Night bars, guitars, rundown motels like shacks

What it mounts up to, I don't want it at all

Lost you, and I want you today

If I were forced to pick only one, right now it would have to be The Beatles.

At various times in my life I might have said Beach Boys, KISS, Van Halen and for about 20 years I would have easily said Led Zeppelin.

Edit: If I go by bands that came out in the last 25 years I would say Foo Fighters
