A very special Dove

You're income has to be in the stratosphere to play that game. That kind of stuff is far-removed from someone liking Gibsons or Martins and who owns several of them. Even by today's standards, I could do a lot of good for my family with $270,000. I bet people who spend that kind of money don't even care how the guitar sounds.....I've just never seen the big deal about guitars played by a celebrity.

Generally speaking, I agree with you. But I wouldn't mind owning Dylan's 1946 J 45//50, or Woody Guthrie's 1943 Southern Jumbo.

Maybe the celebrity and the guitar matter. Not sure how much or a premium, if any, I'd would be willing to pay for those, however.

Think I just stepped onto the slippery slope.....

I remember reading about this in a local paper. If I recall, the guitar was given to Elvis by his dad, maybe, and was used by Elvis on tour and in one tv special until he, suddenly and without explanation, gave it to a fan at a concert, here in Asheville (or hereabouts). Of course, the guy kept it until now, but the story surfaces around here every now and again, like on Elvis's birthday and such.

Fwiw, an original tape of him playing the guitar and some jewelry was also included, so for the Elvis collector, I gotta think this is just business as usual. Only fools rush in... ;)

Yup, love it or hate it there is only ever going to be one of them.

I am not sure about the celebrity owned thing either. If everyone knows you own the Elvi Dove then you have to take extra precautions; bank vault, armed guards, at least better locks on the palace. If no one knows you own it then you have to be constantly pointing it out to people; "see that Dove leaning over there in the corner, blah, blah, blah", "guess what I snagged at the auction the other day?", etc. I am not sure either scenario works for me. I don't remember who said it but 'a new car is a wonderful thing but you can't watch yourself drive by in it'.

Agree with Nick I would put up with the inconveniences for Woody's SJ.
