NGD: LP Trad Pro III

So after over 30 years of being in the Fender camp, I finally broke down and bought a Gibson. I had played a few LP's or SG's over the decades (other band mates, friends, etc...) and could never bond with the baseball neck. I just stopped even trying to play them for years just assuming they weren't for me : (

The thing I never knew (yes, I'm an idiot) was that there was also a 60's slim taper style neck. Apparently all the Gibson's I tried were of the 50's baseball type.

Knowing this, I did some research of the new models and it turns out several have the 60's neck style. I ended up going with a 2015 Les Paul Trad Pro III.

It's a really versatile guitar: Push/push coil splitting, 10DB boost, and coil selector. It also doesn't have the things the 2015 models were generally panned for: Brass nut, Wider Neck, RoboTuners (Robo's were removed and Grover locking tuners installed by Gibson), and Les Paul 100 sharpie penned logo. It's a unusual offering from the 2015 line and only sold at GC's I think.

I love the honeyburst finish and the pickups are just killer. It's a bit on the heavy side (9.8lbs) but that's what padded straps are for right?

Anyway, I wish I had known about the 60's style necks earlier.

Well I'm just a wee bit jealous. Congratulations!

Re: the pickups. Here is the spec's from Gibson:

The pickups are specially selected for the Trad Pro III, the new ’57 A3R and ’57 A3T pickups combine the specs of the ’57 Classic pickup with vintage-output alnico III magnets, resulting in the power and warmth of vintage pickups with added articulation and sparkle. These new pickups feature nickel-plated pole pieces, nickel slugs, maple spacers, and 4-conductor braided wiring.

Like I said, I am really happy with all the versatility this pickup arrangement offers. I tend to like my tone on the brighter side so I also use D'Addario NYXL Strings (10-46).

Very nice!

I also played longer-scale - Fender and others - for as long. Then bought LP Custom with P90s in 2011; total revelation, what was I missing.

Playing and motivation much improved....joined band, Gibson Forum.....now have 3 Gibsons and my playing on all other guitars much improved too....all good [thumbup]!

Congrats on your very special Les Paul with very special pickups! [thumbup] She's a real beauty! [love]

They seem to make rather unusual guitars for GC. I also own a rare and special GC exclusive Les Paul that made it brand-new to a renowned Gibson Custom dealer in Germany. To avoid making Mr. C. O. Jones jealous the second time within a short period I don't post a pic though. ;)

Is this one of the Sprint Run guitars?
