SPBowers Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 So after over 30 years of being in the Fender camp, I finally broke down and bought a Gibson. I had played a few LP's or SG's over the decades (other band mates, friends, etc...) and could never bond with the baseball neck. I just stopped even trying to play them for years just assuming they weren't for me : ( The thing I never knew (yes, I'm an idiot) was that there was also a 60's slim taper style neck. Apparently all the Gibson's I tried were of the 50's baseball type. Knowing this, I did some research of the new models and it turns out several have the 60's neck style. I ended up going with a 2015 Les Paul Trad Pro III. It's a really versatile guitar: Push/push coil splitting, 10DB boost, and coil selector. It also doesn't have the things the 2015 models were generally panned for: Brass nut, Wider Neck, RoboTuners (Robo's were removed and Grover locking tuners installed by Gibson), and Les Paul 100 sharpie penned logo. It's a unusual offering from the 2015 line and only sold at GC's I think. I love the honeyburst finish and the pickups are just killer. It's a bit on the heavy side (9.8lbs) but that's what padded straps are for right? Anyway, I wish I had known about the 60's style necks earlier.
kidblast Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 that's a nice looking trad! congrats! do you know what the pickups are? classic 57s? or something else?

merciful-evans Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 The natural finish is a nice change. The zebra pups suit it well too. I'm also curious to know what they are.
SPBowers Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 Re: the pickups. Here is the spec's from Gibson: The pickups are specially selected for the Trad Pro III, the new ’57 A3R and ’57 A3T pickups combine the specs of the ’57 Classic pickup with vintage-output alnico III magnets, resulting in the power and warmth of vintage pickups with added articulation and sparkle. These new pickups feature nickel-plated pole pieces, nickel slugs, maple spacers, and 4-conductor braided wiring. Like I said, I am really happy with all the versatility this pickup arrangement offers. I tend to like my tone on the brighter side so I also use D'Addario NYXL Strings (10-46).
jdgm Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Very nice! I also played longer-scale - Fender and others - for as long. Then bought LP Custom with P90s in 2011; total revelation, what was I missing. Playing and motivation much improved....joined band, Gibson Forum.....now have 3 Gibsons and my playing on all other guitars much improved too....all good !
pippy Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Hi and welcome to the place. Very Nice LP! Many Congrats! Pip.
capmaster Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Congrats on your very special Les Paul with very special pickups! She's a real beauty! They seem to make rather unusual guitars for GC. I also own a rare and special GC exclusive Les Paul that made it brand-new to a renowned Gibson Custom dealer in Germany. To avoid making Mr. C. O. Jones jealous the second time within a short period I don't post a pic though. ;)
LPguitarman Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Nice LP. Congrats and welcome to the forum.
AlanH Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Many congrats. It has a vintage look to it. I like it!

Your story is nearly identical to mine when I bought my 2013 LP Trad Pro II. Congrats!!!
