Jalex Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Very GAS inducing though a little pricey for me. Think I would take the bird though.
Fullmental Alpinist Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 I'd take either one. They both sounded amazing. Wonder how many effects were in the chain. Didn't they mic it in a strange place: the nut?
58 Relic Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Absolutely gorgeous, just loved the bass response and sustain of the J45 when fingerpicked . But I must admit as I already own a 45 the hummingbird would have my money , a lovely sofa guitar to pass the hours away . Yes GAS has resurfaced and I'm looking at my electrics that I haven't played for a year !! .
blindboygrunt Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Im with relic . Thej45 to me is the nicer of the two. It has the sound that only a j45 has , the hummingbird , while extremely nice , especially when fingerpicked , doesnt have the gibson sound as much as the j45 does. With closed eyes the j45 would easily be identified as a gibson , and the hummjngbird not as easy Though dont think for a minute i wouldnt be delighted with either one. Cool video. And with normal playing that helps identify the guitar rather than the guitarist this time.
MorrisrownSal Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Grunt... I echo all you said. I also love that the playing is "my speed" And Aussie... That Bird also sounds awesome. Plus it also has the best Bird Burst I've ever seen. I like those colors.
E-minor7 Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 , , , the hummingbird , while extremely nice , especially when fingerpicked , doesnt have the gibson sound as much as the j45 does. With closed eyes the j45 would easily be identified as a gibson , and the hummjngbird not as easy Hhmmm, , , listen to the riff-like passage at 3:33 and imagine the strings less fresh. But yes, it's not the most birdy Bird ever heard. The video, among other things, shows the main difference between the 2 short-scale mahogany models, talked about many times here. The 45 has what I call deeper projection where the square is tighter and more focused, thus confirming the HB-trademark : Merciless clarity and tonal overview. As said, I like both basic identities a lot. Agree on the burst, Sal. Irresistible. The torrefaction turns them one tooth darker, , , so seriously they knock on the door to brown. Have to say still I adore mine tho - glowing amber-orange as they are.
j45nick Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Both are spectacularly beautiful guitars. Love the aged tuner buttons on both. Good tests, but I would have liked to hear both flat-picked, in addition to being strummed with bare fingers. The J-45 sound is pure Gibson J-45 to me. The 'Bird is less easily identifiable played this way. I would be happy with either one, although that's the first 'Bird I've seen that makes my heart really go pitter-patter.
