Pesh Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 As many of you know; I've been in need of a new amp for a few months now, since the Lead & Bass Head has finally started to pack in, and it's no longer viable to repair it. So I'm looking to get a small-sized, and relatively low-power tube amp for home usage, as I don't need anything for gigging in the near future, that I can tell. I've come across a range from a company called Egnator, called 'Tweaker'. There are 15, 40, and 88 watt flavours; I'm only considering the 15 or 40, though. I've read some good reviews, but wanted to know if anyone here had any thoughts or experience with them. I'm looking to visit a local store and test-drive them to see how they sound, but any additional information would be welcome. 15 watt Tweaker head 40 watt Tweaker head
Mr. C.O. Jones Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 No experience with them, but..... I looked them up and have to say that it looks really interesting to me. Apart from the five switches it seems an easy amp to dial in the sound youre after. Seeing that you have no prejudices about where it's made, and for the use you wan't to give it, you maybe would like the Orange TH30. I wanted at first a Rockerverb MKII until I tried that one. Very verstile, I know it doesn't look so but it the shape knob does a great job. And what convinced me was the clean channel, really nice and REALLY clean, and lot's of headroom. And if you bring the volume far up it starts to cruch beautifully. The dirt channel does pretty much anything from Fleetwood and Zeppelin to Slayer, at least to my ears. The other advantage is you can switch it from 30 to 15 and again to 7,5 watts. I don't work for Orange by the way, but I really like the simple controls and the build quality. The Tweaker looks like something I woul like for sure. OK spaming-time's over! I shut up. Funny thing would be that you hate their sound.....
badbluesplayer Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 I had a 15 watt Tweaker. It was a little sterile for my liking but it has lots of features and is really versatile. They're a popular part of the Egnater line.
C-RAM Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 I have a 15W Tweaker; it's in my 'couch amp' rotation, sitting on a single 15" open back cab with a Jensen P15N. IMO, it's a typical modern amplifier, by which I mean it provides a range of passable clean and overdriven sounds - nothing about it really jumps out at you, sonically... probably a good choice for what you want. If you desire to change the character of the amp (hence, 'tweak'), the big plus is you can use a wide variety of pre-amp and power tubes WITHOUT biasing or worrying about melting something - try THAT with another amp.
daveinspain Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I have an Egnator Rebel 20 and a Rebel 30… Nice small amps that sound good. The 20 is great but only has one channel and no reverb but does have an FX loop… The 30 has a clean and an drive channel and built in reverb… Not sure if they still make the Rebel line though… I'd say the tweaker is probably a good choice in that price range…
