Its NAMM time

That Gibson ES-275 at 06:28 in the first video looks very cool.

The Gretsch streamliners look great, but I can't imagine you can get a good jazz tone from them as he claims. I have a G5120 and it doesn't work for jazz so good, but maybe those different pickups may be better?

Fenders look like Fenders but now Elite! What's going on with the truss rod though? Not keen on the idea of down at the end of the fingerboard near the pickups for adjustment.

Charvel still do not appeal to me in those vomit colours, but the natural ones are quite nice.

My bandmate works for switchcraft and is at NAMM. All I saw was a picture he took with the bassist from the counting Crows. I'm hoping he swipes me some prototypes!

One of these years, I'll get to NAMM! Unfortunately, it always seems to fall on my birthday weekend, and other plans trump it.

My company used to get you passes if you requested them. But now, with cut-backs, it's not so easy. Even some of my colleagues who SHOULD go as part of their jobs had to get special permission, etc. <_<

I'm cynical. I think guitars are going like smartphones. A new one every year just for the sake of it and they do a little change and call it a new guitar.

The Strat is just a Strat.

The ES guitars look great. Nice new models. I noticed in the first video at about 11:15 the Gibson guy says that they're using Richlite on the Custom because they "don't have the ebony right now." That jives with my guess that they're not going to use any ebony for a certain period of time as part of the settlement having to do with the ebony issue. Just guessing. [thumbup] [thumbup]

I like the new 335s but would really like to take home the 345.

Still no ebony for the 355.

And still no Varitone on it.

Strange choices (at least to me)

Well, of course, until the 'Bullet' truss-rod appeared in the '70s that's where all Fender truss rods had their t-r adjustment screw-head.

I'm not a fan of the new-look access slot, though. Very Ugly.

OK; I know functionality is important but how often, really, does one need to adjust a truss-rod?

Perhaps I'm just lucky with where I live but in 41 years of playing I have never once needed to adjust a t-r (after it had been set properly).

I didn't know that about 70's Fenders as I've never looked into their history as much as I have Gibson.

The only guitars in my collection I find I do adjust the truss rod on every so often (every few years I've found) is some of my cheaper ones. I have a couple of Epi's and the Gretsch I mentioned earlier which I have adjusted a few times over the years. Interestingly, none of my Gibson's have ever needed adjusting (my oldest Gibson is now 19 years old too this year!).

Damn I really wish I would have gone this year. Is it still going? Maybe I can sneak in

The fender booth looks really interesting. How bout that bigsby jazzmaster? And the thinline Tele? Those looked great!

Ya I pretty much agree with that.

I don't need the latest greatest anything.

I really don't 'need' anything at all.

Except practice.

One day...I will go to this show...and it will be amazing!

Yeah we don't really have anything like that over here.. Well not as big as that anyway.. The nearest I have come to that is when I was in games I attended the E3 computer show in L.A. a few times, man it was amazing...

The nearest thing we have is the Birmingham Guitar Show which is on at the end of Feb, and I am on a waiting list to be an exhibitor :o so I may be there. http://www.theguitarshow.co.uk/

That looks like a show worth going. Lot's of small manufacturors. Plus the Swap factor. Their will likely be other players with stuff looking to trade or sell. I went to NAMM twice. When I saw Joe Satriani, I did it. I got his autograph. Felt Dumb as hell but I also got to jam with **** Dale.

I'm looking at going to this! I saw it advertised a few places, so thought about heading up. Trying to get some others interested, too. Let me know if you do get in as an exhibitor!
